I just wanted to see if I could get some tips from the more experienced crowd on how to properly take care of my wicks so that they will last me as long as possible

I bought the cathedral poi from the site

Oh, also I got to spin my friends Isis poi the other night and fuckin hell those flames are huge!

I'm missing a large amount of arm hair and some eyebrow, totally worth it though grin

But uhh yeah anyways, pointers on taking care of fire poi...I believe that was my topic

you are supposed to condition the wicks by letting them soak for 8-15 hours to give them a longer burn time everytime after that and yu want to blow them out rather than let them go out to save wick and soak them in fuel everytime you are done to also stop the wick from burning and also keeps it fueled and ready

Wait, you're supposed to leave your heads, soaked and ready to burn when you're not going to be using them immediately?

well you are supposed to soak them to stop the wick from further smoldering but the only thing you are supposed to soak them in is fuel

What should I keep them in when not performing?

I keep mine either in the empty dipping can or in my head covers I got from here. And the Isis poi, exactly how much bigger are the flames on those, because I'm looking at getting those grin

The only luck is bad luck.

Shut up before I stall my poi up your ass grin

just use a metal can to keep your poi in. soaking them for excessive periods of time does nothing. The wick absorbs and gains a fuel "memory" in less than 15 minutes. dip your poi in fuel right after it is extinguished and then spin off and keep them in a metal can. happy spinning!

haha

I don't have enough personal experience on this to have my own opinion, but the opinion of experienced spinners varies.

There's the HOP line linked by aston.

The North American Association of Fire Artists think that alot of the advice about soaking / quenching etc arose before people were using kevlar wicks, they have a wiki here

https://nafaa.pbworks.com/

with a specific page on wet wicks here:

https://nafaa.pbworks.com/WetWicks

Also in Aus there's a summary drawn up for a confest, a regular communal party:

https://www.confest.org.au/commons/viewtopic.php?t=44&sid=deef438082189e5e5523d44680c035b9

I'm not organised enough to treat one specific wick differently from the other so I doubt I'll ever have evidence of my own either way... crazy
