Right folks,

Less than 2 weeks to go so time for an update!

First piece of news is that I’ve actually managed to get a video done from last year. No fire footage unfortunately since the quality was too poor but I hope you like it anyway:

https://www.yousendit.com/transfer.php?a...c88c020aabfa4fa

And don’t forget to check out Guys punting tutorial vid too:

Next, on to plans for the day.

We will be meeting on Saturday 2nd May at 11:15 at The Granta pub (https://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=The+Granta+pub+cambridge&sll=52.160552,0.157095&sspn=0.255262,0.453186&ie=UTF8&ll=52.202399,0.113554&spn=0.006786,0.086002&z=14&iwloc=A).
They have a large outside decking area which we can invade and have a drink whilst we wait for the (inevitable) latecomers. Lunch isn’t a bad idea at this point too, unless you’re bringing food to eat on the punts, up to you!

We’ll leave the pub at 1:30 and go get us some punts and go for a little boat trip, probably for around 2 hours. Cost will be approximately £30 per punt, so for 6 people in a punt it works out at around a fiver.

We’ll spend the evening on a nearby grassy area by the river. There will be opportunities to buy food, drink and disposable barbeques to cook dinner on. There will be an opportunity for a burn at this stage.

Later on, or if its raining, we’ll go to the hall. There are some strict rules over use of the hall. Failure to observe these rules could have serious consequences to the future of the building, and our use of it, it is in a residential area so noise outside the hall must be kept to a minimum.

-no smoking in the hall at any time (even if its freezing/raining/a hurricane outside, sorry - they have fire alarms!)
-except for the main hall, no sleeping in the Howard Mallett building
-please make sure we have your name on an attendance register in case there's a fire
-no fire spinning in the grassy area outside the main hall, or the car park (there is a spot down the road where you can sate your pyromania if you haven't already, we will happily direct you there)
-Please, you MUST be quiet outside the building as we will be in the center of a residential area.

We will be making a small charge for staying in the hall, just to cover our costs. It is likely to be £3-4 depending on how many people turn up, we’ll keep it to an absolute minimum. I recommend that you bring a sleeping bag, and preferably something to sleep on as well, as the floor of the hall is very hard. Link to the evening venue map: https://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&so...=11&iwloc=A
please call before turning up as we may still be outside playing

See you next week!

P.S. Link to last years vid will be added later when I've sorted out some problems I've had uploading it.

I'm currently exploring our options:

1) there is a campsite next to a quarry but its a ways out of cambridge. However, we'd have a quarry to play and burn in

2) see if I can find an indoor space in cambridge where everyone can crash for the evening: Logistically it'd be much easier

Also there should be more cambridge people there

How can I refuse! I'll ask Nat smile I known it's after a set of exams, so work shouldn't get in the way and I'll try and make sure Nat's not working that weekend.

However, I hope to see you before then. If not in London then at the Bath Upchuck (which I'm probably going to) and BJC (which I'll probably get to on the Thursday night).

Turns out the quarry is actually a nature reserve site with delicate soil structure, so spinning paraffin there is a no no:

However looks like we have a nice indoor hall to play in for the the whole night (we'll need to vacate it by 8.30am at the latest)

ok so a few more details on the rough plan - its in this order(ish)

afternoon - go punting
evening - barbeque/fire in a field somewhere
night - go to a largish sports hall (high ceilings for jugglers!)
next morning - go to a cafe for breakfast

Cheers Mike, I'm good, just incredibly busy!

We're working out the details now: the more people come the lower the cost basically:

the price to rent the hall overnight will be about £120, so on the basis of current confirmed numbers we'd be asking for a £4 donation on the night from those using the hall, however if that goes up oto 40 we'll reduce it to £3. Basically, we're aiming to keep this as cheap as possible.

If you're wondering about the size of the hall, have a look in the 'howard mallett centre' gallery on www.camcircus.org to get a vague idea: basically think roughly basketball court size with very high ceilings

NB we're also looking into arranging free punting this time (since it looks like we'll be able to get more cambridge uni people along)
If this fails, we do our best to dig out discount cards, but it's about £14/hour/punt. A full punt takes 6 people, so that's about £2.33/hour/person in a full punt. We probably won't go as far this time as last time, so it'll probably be around a two hour trip, leaving plenty of time to go and buy food/alcohol for the barbeque.

Ok so we've got the go ahead on use of the hall, subject to a few conditions: please observe these so that we're able to use the hall again and don't get in trouble: breaking these could actually cause problems in terms of the hall being DEMOLISHED, so please make sure you stick to them!

-no smoking in the hall at any time (even if its freezing/raining/a hurricane outside, sorry - they have fire alarms!)
-except for the main hall, no sleeping in the Howard Mallett building
-please make sure we have your name on an attendance register in case there's a fire
-no fire spinning in the grassy area or car park outside the main hall (there is a spot down the road where you can sate your pyromania if you haven't already, we will happily direct you there)
-Please, you MUST be QUIET outside the building as we will be in the center of a residential area.

The hall is large enough to comfortably accomodate lazy people plus jugglers without there being too much accidental bruising. If you plan on being lazy please bring something to lie on (ie a sleeping bag/mat) as the floor is pretty hard. However it is pretty warm so you shouldn't have a problem with being cold, whatever the weather. More info to come on kitchen facilities/chillout area.

If you only want to the day and early evening part, and need somewhere to stay for the night, please message me or tom and we will try to arrange something for you.
