I'm trying to get in contact with someone near. I'm just starting out, and am finding it hard to do this alone. I have some experience through working at the ren festival, but would like to know more. I'm afraid to buy poi and buy the wrong ones.

Hiya, have you looked through the 'Meet Others' and 'Events, Performances and Gatherings' forums? They're probably a better place to meet people..
I wouldn't worry about getting the 'wrong' poi- a lot of very good performers use socks with stuff in them- what sort of thing do you want to use them for? Fire? Showing off to people who don't know that much about poi? I'd start off with a pair of socks- either literally a pair of socks, or something like the sock poi with glow balls in from here (which are rather nice)..
But yes- this forum is for telling us all a bit more about yourself- feel free to do so

I'm bad at threads...I was using like a bean bag on a cord with finger holds, and little comet tails. I want to practice with something more like i would use with fire, so I got a begginer set just to dance around. I'm pretty obsessed with dancing in general.
