I just uploaded this video to my archive if you would like to download it rather then watch it on youtube.

https://www.gsccleric.com/~rovo/Rovo/Tuts%20and%20Demos/

I have been playing with the family of contact poi moves I call snags a bunch lately and since it's very hard to describe these moves through text I made a short video demonstrating a bunch of them. Most if not all of these moves require you to have some kind of handle on your poi.

Here's the link to the new video:

For those of you that don't know what snags are I define them as "a move where the handle of one poi is snagged on the other poi." Here is the demo vid I made of basic snags last year:

I haven't seen many people playing with these so I hope this gets more people interested in them. They really are alot of fun and you can enter them as far as I know from pretty much any tangle, though there are a few other ways to get into a snag.

Sounds great, bro. Cant wait to check them out on my home computer. Ive been playing heaps with snags and suicide-tangle-contact-wraps etc. Just need something to record them with! One day, though.

I just uploaded this video along with a brighter version to my archives so now you won't have to watch this vid on gootube.com

https://www.gsccleric.com/~rovo/Rovo/Tuts%20and%20Demos/

It's under Snags v2.0 of course.

Bluecat, I'm still a bit in the dark about negative space. I think I get the idea but I don't see what makes it so special. I guess I'll need to see it in a video some time. *hint hint*

nothing makes it so special, its a (now disliked by me) name for anything that involves making a gap and using it somehow?: which is what you're doing with the snagging poi.

you can hint away, but until i'm ready, ain't no NS vids coming yet...

(just not got time, or recent practise)

Sorry when I said "makes it so special" I think it came off wrong. Rereading the post it kind of sounds like I'm coming down on the concept which I didn't mean to imply. Gosh darn internet. I should have just said I don't fully understand the concept.

I do see why snags would be a negative space move now. I just wasn't thinking of the looped poi as a gap.

If you could choose a better name for NS what would you use?

ubblol i didn't take offence at all biggrin
i was being grumpy about the name biggrin

a better name? er.. i haven't got one. but the things i do now within NS are varied enough to have their own terms, which is why snags is a nice one for that section of it biggrin

When I have more time I'll have to go re-read the NS threads. I haven't looked over them in a coon's age.

thanx so much for the inspiration with this vid Rovo!

I was trying to apply snags to three poi...one always snagged (or snaggled? :?)with the other one and you can think to a wave and at each side beat you change the poi that is snaggling the other (so difficult to explain a so easy concept....one poi is always out of your hand taken into a snag by the others alternating)...hope you understand what I'm trying to explain...

But I use heavy (and so big) handles than is a bit hard to do more than two or three beat of this....but I think it looks cool!

I hope this have sense wink

Dude that sounds really cool. I don't ever play with three poi (probably because I don't have 3 similar poi) so I haven't tried this but it sounds awesome.

When you get this to work a bit better would you mind posting a video of it? I would like to see it.

I thnik I may have to go make some more poi soon. smile

Duh Icon! I know there's a video forum but this video was a substitute for me attempting (and probably failing) to describe all these new snags in text. Plus I wanted this to be more of a discussion about the move so I felt it would go well here. Oh BTW thanks, I'm glad you liked it. smile

Burncat if you have any questions about these let me know. It takes a bit to get the feel for them but once you figure out how snags work it becomes second nature.

I think there is nothing better than describing moves with videos (that was the intention with trick of the week over on Spherculism) biggrin Thanks for the Vid Chris.

I really need to get outside again and playing. Inspirational stuff. Might be over in May- see you then?

Thanks Chut. That trick of the week thread is great. It's just so much easier to learn from a vid and once more people learn the move they will start coming up with variations that one person alone might never have thought up.

I hope we can meet up for a couple days when your over here. If you could happen to find a way to stay to early June the Wildfire Festival is going on the next state over from ya and it's the largest gathering of spinners on the East Coast.

Oh and I was thinking of different ways to enter a snag this morning and wouldn't it be sweet if someone could snag a poi out of mid-air. Like toss one poi, loop the other, then somehow get the handle of the thrown poi to thread through the loop so it catches.

don't say that, i'm trying to tempt him to Uberparis in june wink

whip catches (like a diabolo, not a tangle) are easy-ish ubblol

make your snag holder, throw the other poi, then aim your gap at the head of the flying poi. tadaa!

No offense to my Wildfire Friends but if I had to choose between the two I would go to Uberparis. I totally forgot that that was happening the following weekend.

I'll have to go give that diabolo style whip catch a try. smile

I have just tryied and is not so hard to snag at mid air...
Try to do a whip-catch but you might pay attenction to catch the second poi at the middle poi body of the one in your hand and the head will come up in your hand...easyier in an atomic patterme...like clash I suppose...

Soverntear- to many variations to comment on really- probably yes.

Rovo Acciaio et al- I don't see a mid air snag as being that difficult... I'll have a play tomorrow smile

Its not easy for me either wink

I think going in using the planes you would enter for butterfly airwraps and opposite direction whipcatches.

I need more space to play with- I don't want to trash my living room as a result smile

Snags and breakable objects don't go well together.

Oh and Chut the Rhode Island and Boston poi people have been tipped off that your going to be in the area. Looks like you may have to spin some poi while your in the states. wink

Now I just gotta make sure I can find my way to Providence for a visit.
