Happy Friday everyone!
Since discovering the wonders of HoP (thanks Malcolm!!!
) , I’ve had 2 different jobs. My job in London was sooooooo not busy, so I spent most of my day searching/posting on HoP 
I’m temping at the moment, and it’s the same situation – no work = lots of time on HoP.
Don’t get me wrong, I have days where I’m really busy, but these busy days don’t happen very often.
I know there’s loads of you out there probably in the same situation – based on the number of people who spend all day on HoP when supposed to be working
So… my question to you is…. If you’ve got a job where it allows you to post on HoP all day…. What is it you’re supposed to be doing?
In London I was supposed to be a Marketing Exec for a Paper Manufacturer, and in Bristol I’m supposed to be a Programme Administrator for the Environment Agency.
I’m trying to apply for a “proper†job at the moment, and every time I think about it, I get “the fear†that I’d actually have to work 8 hours every day
Maybe all office jobs are the same
it’d be good to know where you all work, and what sort of jobs are of the non-busy type…. 
So come on. Spill the beans….. what is it you’re paid to do? And how much time does that job actually take up?

I'm a clinical projects assistant (glorified secretary if you will) working for Roche, a big Pharmaceutical Company. I Basically Liase between my study teams (for 2 different drugs we are working on) and Hospitals/sites which are carrying out the clinical trials.
Half the time tho, I dont have phone calls to make or answer, or emails to read or post, and I do have a few more odd jobs on the way, like checking recruitment databases and tracking documents, posting stuff to sites and making up documents to go to site, but like, that doesnt take up my whole day!
The best bit is, this is a placement between my second and final year at uni, and I'm getting paid a lot for what I did already (sit on HoP) so I love it!

I'm an account executive in an outsourcing company. I'ts not that I have nothing to do. I run a lot of queries which take a really long time which is when I post a lot on HOP...I'm kept quite busy and often end up working 8/9/10 hours on some days, but its all meshed in with HOP interludes which keeps me happier.

im currently an attendant/receptionist and i basically do F-all all day. its ok 'cause i can sort other stuff i need to do like house hunting etc and chatting on hop
ill be working at my SU though from sep, and theres no-way ill be able to use the net there AND ill have work to do
but its a fun job so itll be fine.

I actually did no work at all on Tuesday as I was learning my lines for a play I'm in so did 2 days work on Wednesday which took me ooh...about 3-4 hours!

I am Grade 4 Creative Ad Setter. Sorta low-level graphic design making adverts for many local newspapers in Lancashire. I'm also on a team that exclusively works on a few magazines every month as well.
Can't be arsed with it anymore. Had the idea to join a touring theatre company or go to Oz this Autumn. Still dunno what to do...

As much as posting on hop all day is great! I'm getting to the point where I really need to challenge myself, but I'm sooooooo scared about doing it. I've not been challenged at work for so bloody long, I'm doubtful of my abilities.
I felt a bit trapped in my old job - was there 5 years, knew everyone, knew the job inside out and was bored sh!tless. So I thought: I know! I'll move to bristol and it'll force me to find a good job. That hasn't happened yet! I've been here 3 months or so
I used to always ask for more work, but the last few years I've kind of kept my head down ( ) I'll happily do work, and I'll do it well... but I can't seem to find the motivation to ask for more.

Actually i don't think it was off topic at all, in fact i think it was really rather relevant!
I know exactly what you mean, some days my job just makes me miserable, theres nothing better than doing a good days work to make you feel like you've achieved something...
..unfortunately theres nothing worse than going days/weeks/years(delete as appropriate) on end not really doing anything to make you feel like you're not doing anything with your life.
I'm with you, i love HoP and the people on it and its nice to be able to keep in touch with friends on here, but at the same time I love being challenged.
If things are too easy 9 times out of 10 i lose interest pretty quickly, and i have done so with this job.
HoP's great but I'd much rather have a few recent hard days work under my belt.
Plus another really annoying thing is having to sit at work all day not really doing anything, when I could be off having fun at meets/festivals (EJC being a prime example).
But of course, i would need to have some holiday left to do that sort of thing....ah well....life goes on I suppose!

Well i'm still at the NHS as a temp (5 months later) project administrator, dealing with several chronic eye disease pathways. The first few months were great, as there had been no one in this position for the previous 4 months, so loads to catch up on and loads for me to learn. Now unfortunately i'm on top of everything and scraping around trying to find stuff to do. I don't actually post a lot on HOP, but i do find myself reading more and more.
I know what you mean though, being a bit scared of new challenges. I keep reading job descriptions of web sites and think there's no way i can do that. Ah well, get my impending move over and start the job hunt again in earnest.

Well, i was working as a computer programmer and could have Hop running in the background, but i only even keep tabs on favourite threads. Two weeks out of three i'll be flat out all day but take ten minutes here and there to relax which often means chatting on Hop to friends. It is my preferred way of taking time out. The other week is spent playing solitare, chatting on MSN, posting on Hop and trying to get my uni work done.
This new job seems like it's going to run in 3 month cycles instead of 3 weeks. So, i'll be able to post, chat and do uni work in the first part then be flat out for the second...
When i'm working, i'm working hard and earning the money, but when i'm not i'm slacking big time. But i think the two even out.

i know just what you mean 7 years ive been working as a surveyor for a building contractor, the job is full on and thr resposibilities great, however the real challenge comes when i do work and visit hop the same time
This place gives me a nice break from the mean cut throat world that i work in, where eveyone does stuff for money and nothing else.
Coming here reminds me that there are nice people out there........it also makes me glad that you lot are a big part of my social life, rather than hanging out with some of th idiots i have to work with
As for how long my job actually takes to do? well thats hard to say, no one job is the same here and we have just hit busy season, i rekon in recent weeks gone by i could work at least half the time i have if i actually put my mind to it.........
but then - i think i only get paid half of what im worth so im doing ok from that point of view, they are still getting thier monies worth
Helz - no matter what job you go for after a long period of time working all jobs become "easy", good luck in finding some job satisfaction though, damn we all need a bit of that from time to time...........

I'm a care assistant.
And unless I used Ivys new laptop (shes 87 and learning how to use a computer and browse the internet! Shes ace!), have no means of getting to a computer at all.
But then I guess I only work 1-3 days a week, have been off of college for 6 weeks already and have another 6 weeks to go. My life is pretty work free

You're young, talented and beautiful....I think you could probably walk straight into most jobs to be honest!
And its good to see you're using your time wisely.
I also started looking at jobs after reading this thread...found one with the police working as a "picker" in the forensics department....which would mean seeing dead bodies n stuff.....ick......

I work as a graphic designer and thankfully have a net connection. Somedays I can spend the whole day flicking between forums
But I work hard when the works in (obviously with a few 10 minute net breaks every so often).
