Public school made me hate reading with crap novels like that. Weighty themes does not equal good literature. Eventually in my junior year of high school I decided to reclaim reading from those bastards by reading Moby Dick and Dune back to back. It was cathartic. tongue2

I do't know how it all happened. I used to love reading in 1st grade and before. I was the top reader in my school at the time, then at some time I just decided I hated it. I just stopped enjoying it completely and now I have troubles reading any books that aren't on physics for more than a few pages without dozing off or getting frustrated to the point of screaming and throwing things (yes I'm being literal)

Well, I think it's fair to like reading non-fiction more than fiction. I think I've read two works of fiction in the last four years, compared with at least two dozen books on philosophy and mathematics. I like ideas; people are too messy.

I haven't read any in a longtime though.I read some works of Stephen Hawking when I was in middle school and I was hooked into cosmology, then black holes led me into looking into the ideas of quantum physics, which I still find the most fascinating to this day, then back into more astrophysics. Then I eventually found the one thing that covered all, theoretical physics, the world of new confusing theories, the one I personally like a lot is M-theory. I don't know the math for it yet, but when I do, from knowing the basic principles of what they mean, I think M-theory will be the side I choose. But my classic example to tell people is part of quantum theory, not only because this example is bizarre, but we've observed it and is one of the principles that diodes and lasers are based on. Is that an electron can be in more than one place at the same time. And they are a lot. All this stuff just really caught my eye and I love it smile

Douglas Adams... Anything written by Douglas Adams is freaking epic.

Has anyone else had the fortune to come across 'The Private Life of Genghis Kahn'?

Edit: In other news, my laser arrived today. 100mW of glorious green. grin

I'm now conducting an interesting experiment to see if i can get chocolate to melt with it. tongue2

Well, I would say ok I'll read that book, but I seriously don't think I would ever actually read it because it's just not on tmy list of things to do in my spare time. You know, when you're alone with nothing to do and you think, "Ok, what should I do?" I have never since about 1st grade thought, "I could read." And I don't think that's gonna come up in my thought to be honest.

Also Ascilith, I need some of that luck you're talking about. I haven't had anything go right in a couple months... The most right I've had was the very successful performance, and getting to hang out with a girl I really like out of school for the first time, but she's taken so it's not as right as I would want it tongue2 Every weekend for the past month and a half, I've had friends running fevers over 100 whenever I made plans with them. That right there pissed the hell out of me when it happened to who I was going to go to Tech Fest with because it was her friends driving. It was the girls I had hung out with that I like a lot. She was running a fever off 100.1 from a sunburn. But she really really appreciated the help I gave her with it. Big thank you to EoN and anyone else that told me how to bring that kind of fever down.

Edit: Speaking of going wrong again, my friend forgot he had band practice today, so that plan is shot. With my luck, everyone I know will have Anthrax by the weekend.

Also, trying to close on someone wielding a bo while using tonfa is tricky.

Icarus: Can you?

I love reading. grin Currently working through some Leslie Charteris books I got for my birthday. Still have a few Sherlock Holmes stories and some classic Asimov on my todo list. And some non-fiction, but most non-geologists will find it less than interesting. wink

Wow I saw an old show I used to watch all the time on and decided to watch it. In it I heard an awesome song, I think it would be best probably for staff, but probably good for poi too.

Edit: A link led me to this:

Cross country practice starts now for next year and it's not even the end of the school year yet -.- How does this make sense?

Also I got the most random text ever because someone got the wrong number and here it is:

Jon! No sugar-coating: I'm really worried about you, particularly after getting word that you've also been out of touch with most of your labmates from MI. I'm guessing that you're not in Panama yet, so I'll be waiting outside your building all day. If you're still avoiding me fine, but I just want you to know that there's someone waiting for you who loves you dearly, should you want to talk, ~Aria

Now how would you feel if you just got a text like that. I did text back saying she had the wrong number because that is a little important by the sounds of it... But for about a minute straight I was laughing my ass off on the way home just because it was one of the most random things that's ever happened to me and I also at first thought is was for me laugh3 Until I got to the part about Panama then I was just like wait a minute, there's no way this is for me laugh3
