We also will start needing names who's actually coming on xmas day - as we need to sort out the secret santa

I had an idea how to do it to keep it all secret. Get someone who isn't coming to pick names out the hat for all of us. Otherwise one of us is going to know who everyone has to get for. (did that make sense?)

How come you can't make xmas morning Will? You'll miss pressie exchanges!

Pink why don't you just do raffle ticket presents. Everyone buys 1-2 small presents and wraps them. When you get all the presents together you jumble them up and stick a raffle ticket to each one. Then you each take it in turns to draw tickets from a hat until they are all gone. That way if someone turns up unexpectedly they won't be left out.

We used to always do it that way when I lived in shared rented houses, as you never were quite sure how many people would turn up, what with all the firends and family. We used to agree on a sum of money that everyone was allowed to spend up to and you just went out and got as many bits and bobs as you could for that amount.

It can be quite a laugh. My Dad popped by one year on Boxing day (the houses Christmas day) just as we were about to start and he was made to stay. He managed to get himself tinted Lip balm and a pair of bright red suspenders ubblol Now imagine a man that looked like Buster Merryfield (uncle Albert in Only fools and horses) in a pair of red suspenders, and lipstick and you'll be close to imagining what my dad looked like that day. ubblol

this sounds like a another fine idea from skully, because i also don't know yet if i will be able to come xmas day... seeing as xmas at my house is not usually a BIG family event, it's kind of hard to be absent without someone noticing, so i have to ask permission first biggrin

or you can make like a big lucky dip of the presents because they don't normally let you do that for "grown ups" but you'd need a big bin...

That is a good idea...

But we were kind of hoping for "thoughtful" gifts. Our idea was to have presents that were tailored for that person, so not generic gifts.

But If people aren't going to know if they're turning up...

What's people's thoughts? Becci?

tongue Well that was half the mission - finding out about a person.

I've never had a fridge magnet with my name on frown

Well - the idea behind "thoughtful" gifts was to avoid the year in-year out smellys (bubble bath etc... - yeah yeah we all know the joke "maybe it's because you smell so you don't have to say it), candles, fluffy pens etc...which to be honest i'd prefer not to have anything as you're just saying to the person "I don;t know what to get you, and can't be bothered to find out what you like so i'll get you a generic gift i got in the sales"

ah-ha ah-ha, but i think you can do this without being too generic... somehow... but i agree, smellys are crap. and you wind up with so many you can never use them all, or you smell like a perfume shop...

uh, but i've never had a fridge magnet with my name on either, i don't think they do them frown but i never have anywhere to magnets anyway, (the fridge isn't mine i can hardly claim that), so it's no great loss....

Nicely bumped...suppose it is about time to start finalising plans.

I know what some people's plans are but could do with PM's from everyone else who is interested in coming.

There currently seem to be two groups: those coming for christmas day and those coming over for a spin on boxing day.

Not too bothered about the boxing day lot (who are welcome to stay a night or 2 etc. some indication on this would be good but not vital-just so can plan on food/drink type stuff)

but.... really do need to know about the christmas day people, could you send me a PM with some sort of plans of day of arrival and sort of how long you would like to stay, etc etc. doesn't have to be set in stone. But we may need to know what board games you have and of any special culinary skills.

Pink and I now have tickets for tribe of frog new years eve party in Bristol, anyone who cares to join us may need to get tickets quite quickly.

Oh maus, 2bags says you have to come so thats that, go get your car sorted.

Think thats about it- I'll just wait for Pink to tell me I have forgotten something vitally important.

Becci & I decided that we would have a secret santa instead of the raffle idea (although it was a good one thanks)

The exchanging of the presents will be after dinner on xmas day.

So when you PM Becci or me with your time of arrival etc... about xmas day - please include whether you want to join in the secret santa.
