i was just wondering something.........is it just me or does anyone else get really discouraged looking at the videos on the spherculism site. i keep watching the same video over and over and over again and i still have no idea whats going on.......and this isnt even any of the later poi videos....this is like the fourth one angry

now dont get me wrong..........ive been doin this for awhile and i consider myself fairly good........but then i watch some of the things that some of the "poi gods" do and it blows my mind...........and i think........alright well im gonna practice and practice and ill be just like them..........but how do i that when i get stuck on one of the beginner lessons.........

and im sorry to whine about this but its just kinda frustrating..........i was just seein if anyone else was in this boat with me.........anywayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy...............im done......

oh wait..........one other thing...........ive been reading all the earlier poi moves threads and i was just wondering if pk's poi in the park site was around somewhere or if not if pk was around somewhere so i can see some of the videos he had on that site...............

thanks everyone for listening..........and sorry for my whining.......it wont happen again redface

bob bye

yeah twirling videos have yet to be decent tutorials.

i can only speak from my own experience - it was more to showcase what my twirling style looked like than for any educational capacity.
that it's a good platform to promote what backing choonz you like!

The learning process is all part of it - don't worry, you'll get there smile Just don't forget that what you can do now is still fun, and that's why you do it. Get yourself to some events, meet those "poi gods", and you'll realise they're normal people (well, almost) just like you, and they're more than happy to show you how they do all those silly things.

Personally I love watching videos because they give me more ideas to play with...

ditto Yep.

The people who contribute tutorials to Spherc, HoP and Pip have been playing and practicing for years... they're giving up their time and energy to try to help other people through those vids.

It's a bit intimidating, but also exciting (not disheartening) to see how far those people have been able to take their art.

Enjoy and appreciate that they're available... and use them to improve, not to feel inadequate.

i remember when i first went on spherc... i thought matt was crazy just cuz of UTL throws... which i now do with fire with ease... (im pretty good compared to other poi spinners in israel, but pretty average compared to spinners worldwide...)
so just relax, and just watch those vids for inspiration... try to learn the base patterns of most the moves matt does... (like airwrap throw, learn airwrap and throw and then try that...) at first everything looks hard, i mean TTN looked really hard to me until last year, and then i learnt hyperloops and stuff and now i see that it's really a basic move...

When I started on |S| I was very early in my spinning knowledge- no 5 bt weaves, no tangles, no throws, little body movement. The videos on the site both intimidated and inspisred me though- If you stick with the site, post in the forums and really care about learning, you will get to a level where you can play with the more complex stuff int the videos.

I wouldn't be the poi adddicted man I am if it weren't for the site smile

If it helps, I feel the same way sometimes as well, and I know I'm one of the people that other people sometimes feel that way about. When I watch Andy do some of the things he does, I think... Damn, how am I ever going to find the time to do that so well.

...And I might never find the time. People are coming up with so much stuff that maybe we need to pick the area we want to go in. I have to accept that I may never do one handed stuff like Andy, or wibbling like Matt, etc. Also, there is stuff that those guys do that they are simply more tuned to. Even if I get the time to put as many hours of practice in that Andy has put into one handed stuff.. that still might not make me as good as Andy at one handed stuff.

So ultimately the way to happiness is to give up wanting to be "good." But I'm even further from that kind of spiritual enlightenment than some of these moves I see these guys doing! So I'll just keep doing my best to practice happily at the stuff I like practicing, whilst admiring and enjoying all this other stuff others do that's so fun to watch.

it's great that the word 'fun' was mentioned three times already here.

hi firestarter

I just wanted to tell you one thing :
everything you see isn't too difficult to learn

believe me
I never had a teacher and just learned by watching the videos and now see - I can do all of the moves I ever saw on videos

just practice one year 1 hour a day and there will be no more frustrating moments when watching a new vidyo wink

the best things i can suggest have already been suggested

1: meet some really good spinners(there are LOTS wink ). and yes, they are normal people, who on the whole will help you understand what you couldn't get from video

2; don't worry about it. you'll develop at your own pace and create your own style, and discover tht something you are having difficulty with now will osmose into your brain and you'll try it in six months and wonder what all th bother was about.

and enjoy yourself.

hugs

hi everyone weavesmiley

thanks for all the encouragement. i feel alot better. ubblovethankx

i just realized that this was moved to the videos section. and i didnt think i was gonna get so many responses cause imo i thought i sounded like a whiny little girl. ha eek

but on the brighter side im gettin the hang of stuff. ive recently went thru the entire video section and dled every video that i could so im pretty happy about that. and i also have the circles of light videos. my problem i think was not practicing enough or not putting enough effort into trying to sort out new moves. im gettin the hang of the five beat ttn and im kinda gettin airwraps. although some of the stuff oli does is absolutely amazing. wow he is really inspirational.

so yeah thanks again everyone. all you guys rock. hug

byeeeee bye

xxfirestarterxx0413,

I think your problem with spherculism is that you aren't involved in the forums.

I sent you a really nice PM on spherc when you first posted this thread to see how long it took you to respond, but you never did frown

Why is this thread on hop but not on spherc?

Why have you never asked how to do stuff in the videos?

I hope you got that pm cos i've just deleted my sentbox frown

Oh dear, oh well. Come talk to me on spherc and i'll totally sort you out with anything you don't understand.

Oh yeah, and there's no beginner section on spherc, cos it's not entirely for beginners (well that's not really true cos i'm still just a beginner), so the fourth video might be the 104 from beginner level, so don't worry. I'm guessing you're talking about the butterfly section which goes something like.

1) Basic butterfly
2) Basic butterfly backwards
3) 3 Beat Impossible Weave
4) 5 beat Impossible weave
ubblol

so for me there was about a 2 year gap between #2 and #3 and another year between #3 and #4
