ok, this is intended as an amendment to Dunc's falmouth 4 weekend decider poll. in an effort to make more sense of the polling data, voting is restricted in two seperate polls to two votes in each - the two weekends you prefer most and the two worst for you:

has anyone actually checked if mags is even free on all those dates....itd be a bit silly and annoying if we picked a date when he wasnt available

If I remember rightly....he's away for a month starting this week so I'd say we're pretty safe voting

is this the longest falmouth decider ever? If you don't know you lose.

Will someone just take the bull by the horns and decide??!! Is it Mags job now or will there be a definative "poll end" date?

Well as the weekend of the 23nd-24th was the original date Mags suggested and its winning in the pole (just) do you want me to grab the horns of the bull and announce it and be the one everyone hates for it not being on the weekend they wanted? I'm cool with all the hate and dispare that will be heaped on me. I have broad shoulders.....well.....ok I don't really, they are kind of thin and weedy like the rest of me, but I'll do it if you want someone to do it.

Yes I know but the natives are getting restless..... they might start a riot if we ignore them........ or even worse they may throw their poi to the floor in a hissy fit and take up stamp collecting instead!

ok, If we subtract the number of negative votes from the number of positive votes, we find a distribution for weekend preferences that look like this:

July 2-3: -5
July 9-10: -6
July 16-17: -3
July 23-24: +5
July 30-31: -3
August 6-7: +5
August 13-14: +1

I'd be inclined to say all negative weekends should be struck from the list.

AAAAAARGH! Scientists!
(imho, you should use standard deviation instead, cause standard errors make the results look nicer than they actually are)

Well if he took all the factors into account, quantified them and then use ANOCVAs then we'd get reliable information - still one must make sure one isn't wasting one's efforts. ubblol I think either of those two weekends will be fine.

Hehehehe - I used to use Minitab and S-plus (S-plus being far better). However, schools don't usually have stats packages (and I guess that they don't need them due to the level in which they go into things) so I need to use Excel for data analysis, which really sucks since Excel uses models based on business systems rather than science so the end results are not quite as accurate as I'd like. I think that we have now managed to get more offtopic than I've ever gone before biggrin

I've done that a few times... look up the fist page(s) of Ry's Intro, Molly and me used it for discussing tsetse flies redface

We should have a science nerd thread, but that might get out of control.
