nice vid!

I don't really like staff, but I loved it!
I really liked the burnoffs (ground fires) you did....

and you forgot to tell ppl to right click>save target as... (angelfire doesn't allow streaming)

that was so cool

some of the best fire knife i've seen.(why do they call it fire knife when it's really just a stick with kevlar on both ends? ;])

Lights dancing off my skin as chains wrap round it.
Pain is in a little box and I'm so glad I found it.

haha thor, it's because, it really is a knife.... or machete to be specific. Personally i don't use a sharp one, but in competitions, most do :S

heh. the only fire knife i've ever seen was just a wood staff with a carved blade-lookin head wrapped with wick on one end and a ball of wick on the other.

but, if it's really just a machete, what's holding the fuel on? =]

Lights dancing off my skin as chains wrap round it.
Pain is in a little box and I'm so glad I found it.

i wired ceiling tile to the knife end and wrapped the tile with kevlar. The other end is pretty much a regular staff.

definately a nice vid. I would have to agree with mech the time you have put into working out that routine shows. It's very ummm robust. Ya that's the word I was looking for. Thank you for your contribution to my archive of fire vids from around the world. You even got your own folder, so that I can add more in the future. right?

My three sons all do fireknife - my youngest holds the L.A. children's championship and my oldest is among the top three Juniors in the world - placing in Samoa, American Samoa, L.A., and Hawaii.
The blades are real - we make them from machetes. Holes are welded into the blades to hold the wick on. I don't reccomend ceiling tiles as they contain a lot of toxins. We use either plain cotton towels or Kanek - available only in Hawaii.]
Am still trying to get the vid - we're on dial up down here.

I just can't believe people actually undergo training to do such a thing :S

Hi Teejay,
my friend and i reference and view your site quite often, bought the 2003 championship as well from your site.
I must admit, i don't know if i want you watching our video haha, after watching your sons, you will think we spin so slow!
my partner and i are still transitioning from regular staff over to fireknife and haven't gotten down all the techniques yet. Still need to work on gaining the warrior spirit! But i find the polynesian style that much more beautifull to watch as well as perform so competing in the championships is a distant goal!!

Hey !
Reign - did finally get your video downloaded - you guys are doing great !
If you haven't checked oiut our website lately, we have changed the judging for competitions- the judging before was pretty objective and wasn't really standardized. This year, we will have 3 technical judges who make sure that all the required moves are done, count the drops, make sure the required time (7 minutes) is met, and that the knife is to spec. We will also have the 3 showmanship judges. As soon as time permits, I'll be filming a short video which shows all the required moves and how they are done- I'd be happy to send it to you if you'd like.
