Long long time ago I was sitting at my desk at work. I wasn’t doing anything interesting just the usual updating data bases and filing letters. Now at work there was a small mother a child group holding one of their special days for the kids. Up the stairs walked a man called Luke. He carried all of these strange things, said he came for the circus skills workshop day we were holding and asked for a helping hand. So I helped him to set things up.

We did a bit of juggling with balls and scarves. Balanced peacock feathers on our faces and we were really having fun. Then out of his bag he pulled some balls on string. One of the other mum’s faces lit up ran over and grabbed them with this huge smile on her face. As she went outside we all followed curious to what these things were. Before we knew what was truly going on we were mesmerized. The balls on string had what appeared to have streamers on the ends which made a gentle noise and the most amazing patterns I have ever seen. And all this from balls on string so I just had to have a go. I tried my best and my goodness was it harder than it looked.

As soon as I got home the internet was switched on before the kettle. I had to find out what they were called. So I googled “Spinning balls on strings”

The first site I came to was called Home Of Poi so I double clicked to see what it was all about. I first read the history and then thought would go and have a look in the gallery. Talk about shocked…. It could be done with Fire!!! And there was a huge community dedicated to it… and not just one online community but loads all over he world. Why had I never heard of this before? How do I make them? And where could I learn just how to do it? So I searched the forum, read loads of posts and then Huzahhh I found the free online Poi lessons. Straight upstairs I ran to get the longest pair of socks I could find then ran back down again trying to find matching balls or just something to put in the bottom ad tied a knot at the top. Next step was to click on the first lesson…..

And that’s the day I got hooked to Poi.

Since then I have been to quite a few meets and have started our own which has infected lots more people in our town to learn to spin.

I do more now than just Poi and for the first time in my life have a whole bunch of fantastic friends who I feel I can turn to for anything life throws at me.

Who am I? Well………………….

I'm studying a diploma in Inventory and Operations Management *yawns* 2nd year of 2. It's easy peasy lemon squeezy and as it's work paying for it I get to earn wedge from my job as I do it which is nice! I should get a pay rise too once I'm qualified which is even nicer!!

What do you do?

Oh and I live in Telford by the way, not Dudley. How far is Nuneaton?

i am not sure where telford is without looking at a map, buts its just out side of coventry and about 20something miles away from Brum...
as for me i work, study, a mum, voluteer, community type stuff too.lol. oh and occasionaly sleep.

Wow!
Do you have time for sleep?

The council are buggers for cutting down trees, arn't they.
They never think about poor old magpies, or they don't care.
It's sad.

We kept chickens for a while and magpies used to come and steal the eggs. I got a bit narked about that, but I forgave them. Unlike the fox that came. Coz after that we didn't keep chickens no more!

I would think kids could get real good at it, especially if they started young.

I'll try and look at photo bucket, or you could put your kids in your gallery.
At the momment I havn't got any pictures up, except one of the bird, because I havn't really got a way of getting them on, untill I get some pics on a disk or something.
My kid put himself on 'hot or not' a while ago. He thinks he's hot, I think he's my cute little baby!
And the worst thing is, when I was his age he was 4!
I almost can't believe it.
I'm going to have to go now, but I'll try and look at your kids pics tomorrow, I bet they're beautiful.

Hmm. Bring your kids to juggling club with yourself. We have loads of kids. I teach a couple of them poi, and aside from that they can learn any number of circus skills, including unicycling. I think everyone under 20 can unicycle! smile

So are you (That is you with the two lip piercings isn't it?)
The little boy (Morgan?) is the cutest thing I've seen for years. Really gorgeous.
I assume the moheican with the ear is your bloke.
That's a fine looking family you've got.

I tried doing that with my ears once. I got the bottom piercings about 1cm, but I let them go and they've shrunk back now.

I like your altar!

And oh, oh! The guy with the green mohican, does he live in cov? He looks ike a guy i saw learning poi at the club there last week!

thankyou on the alter compliment too.
i can not believe they have started poi without telling me frown

Fun? confused
Well, the nearest I get to 'out' at the mo is ASDA!
So, plans for weekend? bickering with husband seems the most likley.
The dog might get a walk if it don't rain, and if the car starts he might even get to go to the beach and frollick amidst the untreated sewage.

Oh yes! Fun! I remember that!

How about you? you doing anything nice? if you are better now.

am going for small d rings and as for the pattern well i got a really cheap thing from a charity shop and its a mix of that pattern and a couple of others i have seen. so i have no idea what its going to look like other than velvet

Sounds good. Where do you get the D rings from?

Mine is just thick (coutil) cotton, laced up the front and back through big silver ring holes. Laces shut at the front and with a gap at the back.
I made the pattern by sticking gaffer tape all over me and then cutting it off. Then I made one out of old curtains and adjusted it till it fit right.
Then I made the real one.
I think I should have used the spiral bones instead of the solid ones. I can't bend in it at all! It feels so odd.
But it don't half push my t*ts up!
Good luck with yours, the velvet sounds well nice.
I told myself that once I got the hang of it I'd make a leather one. don't know if I'll ever get round to it though.

you know i had thought about thaat as i have heard its great. i get the d rings from the local hard wear store which is also where i get my strapping for when i make my bondage clothes... i have this thing at the mo for pin stripes and skull and cross bones. lol. its all very very odd but i love it.
i will put pics of me in my corset up in my gallery when i get it finished, infact i put some in tonight....pink hats the coolest.lol. the boaning i have got is boan on a roll, which i loved the sound of so just had to get it, its about £1.50 per meter, i am a size ten so i should be able to get a really thin waist without killing myself that much.... i hope. lol
at the moment i am prepping my dolls house which i am doing up, fun fun fun having to rest rocks...although missing my poi

Bloody hell, that's good going, you must have loads of will power.
Unlike me, I just moan about being too fat and don't do anything about it.
Well, I do, I just stuff more flakes down my neck! ubblol
The pink hat is very funny, it's a mad hat.
The glow poi photos are a bit dark, are they brighter than that in reality?
Odd, I was looking at them on the net today, wondering what they looked like.
And you put pictures up to show me, you must be psychic.
