Alright, I'm new to the boards, but not to the site. I've been looking at the gallery, lessons etc... for almost a year now, and after I started seeing Poi in my dreams, I decided it was probably time to start...
I plan to start with tennis balls on strings or something, but hope to be buying my own wicks soon...

I see. What belt are you at now?...heh my dojo does belts a bit differently than everyone else, so I don't think my belt rank would do you any good.
So do you have a name Chris would recognize you by or anything?
And my wrestling background is limited now...I did high school wrestling, but the program has gone to the dogs. Kids walk around with skate shoes and running shoes on that mats. I am the only one who uses bare feet.
Do you know Tim Dixon? Shaun Krysa? Shawn Veltman? Mike Large? or anyone from my dojo?

I have black belts and teaching certificates in a couple of different arts. Currently I teach JKD/Grappling/Kali. Don't know if Chris will remember me. My name is Patrick Hughes.
Am not so good with names anymore. Choked out or hit to the head one too many times.

It's a sensei's job to make sure the students know how to do the technique properly
JKD eh? I always admired that, but after I went had to leave Judo I had no more time for martial arts anymore cause of hockey...so it wasn't untill I did a bit of akido when Chris did some karate in our school. I checked out the dojo and after a year of wearing down my parents, signed up for a year. I have 8 months to find a job that can support next year's membership...

hehehe, I've always been a post whore. My best is start was, over 100 posts in less than 20 hours...
And I wouldn't mind the old style of training from japan...go live with the school, pull your weight with chores etc...and live there ^.^'

I've done the uchi-deshi thing. Not all its cracked up to be. But an experience, none the less. You could always go and stay at the Kodokan for a year? How long did you do Judo? Remember your sensei's name? I used to train with Bill Lewochko up in Bradford. Can you tell that I've always been somewhat obsessed with MA's? LOL!

I can't remember, I did judo at age 6-7 (2 years worth). I started with my older brother but he quit after 1 year...
I can't remember where I trained but it's closed now. My friend stayed in to get his jr black belt, now he does akido here in town.
So do you do poi at all or are you just here for the people?

Will depend on my schedule. I work rotating shifts for a private security company. Can be a pain trying to book days off
Yeh, staff is good at a certain range, but not if someone gets inside that.

Heh, my friend (I recently got him into BJJ and MMA) found out that whole ranges thing the hard way...He didn't know what we used kicks for in MMA (judging distances for your punches to create combos etc...) so I threw a few light kicks at his thigh, he blocked with his hands...needless to say, he learned after several kicks not to block kicks with his hands...he was lucky we used boxing gloves ^.^' Otherwise he would be out lol...
That sounds like Mike Large. He has to work shifts in security or something...he missed Joslins cause his partner cancelled the shift he said he'd take.
