Alright, I'm new to the boards, but not to the site. I've been looking at the gallery, lessons etc... for almost a year now, and after I started seeing Poi in my dreams, I decided it was probably time to start...
I plan to start with tennis balls on strings or something, but hope to be buying my own wicks soon...

Hehe my first obstacle is *drum roll* the time factor.
I do Jiu Jitsu monday-thursday for 3 hours a night.
Friday I have a party at my house (every week yes)
Saturday I usually sleep all day because of last night's party
Sunday I usually sleep again...and have hockey at night.

This leaves 0 time for Poi...unless I get off my computer for all of...an hour a night (it's not like I do anything important anyways... ubblol) in which case it would be alright...

Just a few quick questions seeing as I have nothing better to do...

How hard did you find Poi to start? and how long did it take you to start getting good?

i was the one in the bikini....the one who won biggrin

as far as poi goes, it wasn't the hard for me to start. i kinda was into poi before i even knew it was poi. and once i really learned about it, i was anxious to learn anyhow. but i'm a slow learner. so it's taken me awhile to get my skills up. plus i need someone to teach me, i learn better that way, and the people i was around who did poi didn't teach it very well.

As far as the audio I heard went, taking the top off meant you won...
Although, from a wrestling point of view, you guys were the funniest thing I've ever seen...
After doing grappling martial arts and wrestling, I don't think I can look at mud/jelly wrestling ever the same...I was shouting at the computer screen things you guys should/could of been doing...

Thats it! I must come to the next jelly wrestling match and show you all how it's done!
Now all I need is a car...

Ok, let's put it this way.

5 days a week, I wear nothing but a jock, tight bicycle pants and lightly padded gloves. I then proceed to fight (close to no rules) for 15 min bouts with sweaty men who weigh 70 pounds more than me...and yes, we get nearly naked, sweaty and then wrestle...

damn, this is getting even more inapropriate...

My dojo's site for what I do

Take a glimpse at that, and maybe the pictures if you want...

my name is on the awards list at the bottom as well, but only once so far (will be 3 times by the end of the summer. I will have taken a 2nd in nationals and two 1sts in world comps)

Sorry if I sounded cocky or anything, but I do have a good idea of what I am doing.

oh i don't doubt that you know what you're doing. i got the same response from a good friend who also wrestles. but trust me, sweaty skin does not come close to jelly ubblol i'm quite an athletic person myself, and i do a lot of fighting (with guys 2-3 times my weight) and sparring and just plain goofing around with my friends. but the jelly wrestling really was just more for fun than anything. if i pulled moves in the wrestling that i would normally do in fights, we'd probably end up hurting each other and that certainly wasn't what it was about.

Either way, I have no money for seminars...Usuall Chris and Shaun (Kyrsa, don't know if you know him or not, but seeing as you know Sensei you might know him too...) go to Soares' when ever he is in the area. They always bring back nifty new things to play with ^.^'

What club are you with? and are you going to Arnolds?

and pity about the Joslins thing, it was a fun time. My first tournament, let alone at that level...my first fight I threw on a baseball choke about 30 seconds in after I got side controll...the ref didn't stop me, the kid didn't tap so after Tim Dixon (You should know him) whispers to the ref "He's out, stop the fight", the ref stoped the fight and the kid went into a siezure ubbloco heh, what a way to start my fighting career. I came in 2nd because I made a stupid mistake...many of them really.

Yeh, Matt's got his black belt now.
I teach out of Kageyama Dojo. Just renting mat time there. Used to teach up at Samurai. Back in the day when Omar and Carlos Newton were still there.
Won't be going to Arnold's. Saving money to go to France for a Savate/JKD/Kali camp in August. Then back to Australia in December.
Cheers!
P.S. Ever get a chance to make it down to Toronto Thunder? Saw that you come from a wrestling background. ubbloco weavesmiley ubbloco
