I wish be of more use, but just practice lots and lots and lots.

I spent about four months picking up both my long staffs, spinning them in a simple pattern and smashing them together all the time. I then put them down and tried again a week later.

Over all I probably only spent 10 hours or so practicing, then I saw this guy who had more double's moves than I had singles. I was so blown away I started hard-out practising and suddenly it all started to fall into place.

I'm just guessing here, but I think building up the muscles involved in doing long doubles is just as important as technique. If you get exhausted after 2 minutes like i did at first, it makes it hard to put in the hours practise...

Best of luck...

Ah yes. But we all se what that two minutes got ya to Charles

I've gotta work on double electroglo staffs. Those things are light (don't know how to weight em...) but they move smoothly. Fun stuff

electroglos would be physically easier to start off with, bue you'd want to overcondition your arms on heavier staves so that you can perform for longer on lighter staves.

I wish that I could perform for longer.

yeah, arms...

Theres a thread a while back called double staff starter and I got some more to add to it, maybe we should get more serious with the doubles?

I know for shure I prefer my single tho because its not so damm tiring.

Someone on here suggested (unless I dreamed it) of throwing butterfly doubles. I havent hit myself like that for a long time, right inna temple.

Transitions took the longest, figuring how to go from what to what to cross fingerspinning 3 beat weave and back.

I also think its time for a staff moves V, more doubles term, more contact term?

causin trouble again...

Love

again all i can recommend is solid practise... and the usual rule...if you hit yourself that is where the next trick comes from...

i have been injured for a week or so and not been able to do staff, already makes me tired in about 5 minutes instead of muchmuch longer...so heavier and longer staffs good for that, also you will find if you are used to heavy staffs then light ones will fly and seem like the easiest thing in the world...
got to go, but i have the craziest contact double stuff from not being able to throw or even use my left hand for a while....will post it on 'new contact stuff' in a day or two.

brain replacement...anyone?

I can not do double staff for love nor money. Don't understand how you guys do it. I tried and just gave up, partly out of boredom and partly because I think that single staff looks better anyway. You may only have two flames, but it moves so much better and faster, Whenever I've seen anyone doing two they always look a little awkward and slow. Perhaps I'm watching the wrong people!!!

Just a thought on arm strengthening things.

A friend of mine uses a large, heavy street lamp pole thing to practise with. It takes a bit of getting use too but after a while the wieght flows smoothly enough to do some great stuff (considering its a heavy street pole that weighs a tonne ).

Then, you pick up your normal ones and play with them like toothpicks.

yeah my staves are really light...

and I reckon doubles can look really fast - I think MoonWatcher has been watching the wrong ppl too

In fact, I reckon fast and furious can only really be done with doubles...

As for heavy ones, If I were making another pair I'd make heavy longs. Dangerboy's staves are really heavy (as in scarily so) but I think this only adds to his smooth technique...

catching heavy staves can hurt your hands if you do it wrong tho...whereas mine just sorta bounce off...

When i first started on doubesls i had 2 staffs (staves?)of different weights, very confusing at first, but actually makes you focus on both hands at once rather than just doing the same thing with each. Just have to remembermto keep swapping hands so there both equal, ss with everything just takes practices. Carefull though, i burnt my favourite shirt the other day doing double forwards shoulder rolls, took the dang thing right of my back

If you read my post above, thats's exactly what happened to me as well...I know it can seem frustrating but doubles will defintely 'click' at some point.

What I believe wmay speed up the process is to practice 5 minutes of doubles everytime before doing single staff or poi. That way the muscles and the headspace involved will keep adjusting.

Just coz youo aren't improving visually doesn't mean there aren't changes going on in your head and muscles...Try to keep that in mind when it gets frustrating...

Best of luck...

Instead of helping out in any meaningful way, I'll just interject that if you twirles three staveses together in a cube formation in one hand (like the 'cross' with two staves, only with a more akward use of finger strength) the heat really concentrates in the middle, and i give out this really funny (to others) yelp when i gets too much and i drop it all. figure 8 and corkscrew, but not much else
