Some not very nice person has taken over #poi on irc with lots of bots and banned some of the regulars. Note to person with the bots: They are also putting off some of the casual users.

Anyway we have temporarily moved to #poi2, come join us for loads of stimulating conversation, poi tips and moves and all that interesting stuff

Channel rules: No BOTS Please!

peace

P.S. Bot person plz can u respond to my irc messages so i can explain afew irc niceties to you that will help you get on with the regulars.

I'm not mad, I just have my own specialised version of sanity

You may as well not link to it Malcolm - there seem to be a few regulars who come in almost every day, and a couple of others who appear every now and then. But new people very rarely show up, and don't stay for long. IRC is a thing of the past it would seem.

With this latest development - someone got upset, I'm not sure what over, I wasn't there, and has placed bots in the channel and banned several users. He's claimed ownership of the channel, even after I explained that I was the original channel participant and would not ban or kick him if he set things right again by removing the bots and re-opping me.

It's all a little pathetic, and I'm too busy to really be bothered by it.

So, removing the link to IRC sounds like a good idea to me. It was never much of a success anyway.

If anyone cares, I have a small irc network, everyone is welcome to move to it, no bots here, services, and ircops who know who owns what channels so there will be no takeovers. irc.foozone.net or irc.mystic-net.org

It is basicly a very simple computer program that does some simple functions in a IRC channel for maintenance. It can op people (op's is like moderators on this board, they moderate the channel and kick people who do bad things and what not) it can do simple functions like tell you when a user was last online and it can even play games with other people in the channel. They can also be used with malice to take over a channel.

ok I don't do web based chat. I do mIRC
This is what everyone who is asking wants to know:

The address an IP or a URL, for example:
irc.somenetwork.net

and a Channel, but the title of this thread leads me to believe the channel is at the moment: #poi2

so someone who knows, please tell us

Thanks Sparkie.. finally got connected

Dunno if I will bother hanging there much tho.. considering the only person on the server when I connected was a bot.. and the server's highest connection count is 4..

Another good IRC channel to check out is #playadelfuego on irc.elemental.org. This channel is mostly for the east-coast regional BurningMan event Playa del Fuego (www.playadelfuego.org) but of the 20-odd peeps on there now only two or three are *not* fire spinners. ;-)

BTW, be sure to introduce yourself when you join the channel.
