Posted: Hi! I just got back from 5 weeks in Thailand not long ago. It is an *amazing* country and can't wait to go back already!! Anyways....money wise, I spent about £500 on a flight(wanted to fly singapore airlines), but u can pick them up for about £350. Was living on just under £100 a week when I was out there but I was spending money like it was going out of fashion at first!! That was for accomodation, food, travel, shopping (went a bit mad on the markets!!), drinking too much every night, treks and stuff, plus I was smoking heaps when I was out there. So I wasn't trying to be a budget traveller and I reckon u could easily get away with spending half of that a week. Didn't get to do the cambodia, vietnam, laos loop, but hoping to do that next time if I can stay out there for a while longer. If I remember right tho they are all even cheaper than Thailand, but maybe someone who's been there can tell u more about that. I think the best time to go weather wise is between October and March or something like that. Not too hot and not too wet. I was out there in May thru June tho and altho it rained sometimes and did get v humid, it was still an awesome experience! K, hope that helped a little bit! fairy girl ooh and ps. make sure u go to Ko Samet and see the amazing fire guys at Silver Sands, they rock!!
dont dream it.....be it!

Posted: hehe dude, I have spent about 8 weeks in Thailand all in Kuraht. Or Kurat, or however it is spelled (I have seen it spelled several ways) anyhoo...
It depends on your spending habits, you could probably get by there for a month or two on $1000-$1500 USD.
Be smart about all your spending thats all I can say.
Personally I have been there in both summer and winter, I have seen it rain 3 times, and though it is hot as a monkey's butt a good hotel has kick arse A/C.
I stayed at the Sima Thani. An awesome 5 star (in Thai standerds) good restruants a 50 baht ride from the mall... well for Americans that is (something about them knowing we have money and are stupid with it *shrugs*)
Thai people are very very friendly, some of the nicest in the world and will bend over backwards to help you.
Words to the wise, be respectfull in all seriousness, dont disrespect anything that has a picture of their King on it, including money.

Posted: Lucky you I just came back from Thailand myself. Love it! My favourite place is definitly Tonsai/Railey beach. Paid about150£ for one month in Andaman nature Bungalows. The beach is good for climbing as well as firetwirling! I've been there for low seoson the last three years, and will probably be there for the next one and the next one after that and so on. I woudn't go there for highseason (Oct-March) though! To many people and it's a lot more expencive. Prices on bungalows goes up at least 300% -but that's the Krabi area. As everywhere else if you get a littlebit away from the touristy places, evrything is much, much cheaper. It's hard to tell how much money you need. I allways tend to spend more money than what I plan. There's allways a good party I don't want to miss out on, and the markets... , western food is also more expensive -and I need brown bread and pizza once in a while..
I went to Laos two years ago. Cheap, but I can't remember how cheap. I guess it's a bit cheaper than Thailand. Someone told me that Cambodia is dirtcheap. Even a few thais told me it is cheap, so it must be cheaper than Thailand.
If you are an Indiaveteran, I'm sure you'll find Thailand very easy to travel in. I found it a lot easyer to find clean, cheap rooms in Thailand than in India. But.. young and naive as I was (four years ago ) I sure got ripped off at least hundred times on one month in India.

Ps. and yes.. Thai people are sooo friendly! I also agree with Fairy Girl about Ko Samet. There are some great firetwirlers there. You'll also find good jugglers and twirlers in the park close to Khao Sarn road in Bangkok, and on koh Phangnan + in Railey offcourse
Posted: I didn't get a chance to visit any other islands, went to Ko Samet twice while I was out there mainly cos it is so easy to get to, but also cos I loved it so much!! Heaps of Thais go there at the weekend so it's *lots* of fun cos they are so mad and funny when they are partying!! Had lessons from the fire show guys at Silver Sands and they were absolutely wonderful! Really nice guys, had lots of fun learning and playing with the fire in the evening! One of them was talking about how good the fire shows are on Ko Phangnan so hopefully next time I go I will get there to see them too! Thai people really do rock, they are *so* friendly, gotta love 'em, even when they try to rip u off!! Don't blame them for trying but u really have to be careful when u first get out there else u get charged at least double for everything lol!! Aww, I really want to go back now, I miss it *so* much!

Posted: hello there:) i have a long topic on my thai travels on the 14th of July i think, i wrote it as i waited for my plane to come to Bankok and then it whisked me away back to England. i used the name of still living, check it out if your bored or interested. but if not then i will say in brief that in ko phan nang, the main beach for the full moon is called hat rin (not sure about spelling) and if you get sick of partying till dawn then go to the beach next door, you can easily get there by a taxi boat for around 1 pound. its called hat yaan and as you look out to sea from hat rin its to the left the next bay across. and hear you will find one of the nicest beaches in the world. every friday night theres a party at a bar in the forest (ive forgotten the name of the bar.) Pretty good trippy place. Also a place called Pai, up north from chang mai, about 130 km away and is brilliant to visit on a motor bike but the travelling bag does get in the way abit:) if you go to the beach called hat yaan, find the middle bar called 'good hope' (it also has real nice beach bungalows in a friendly chilled area) and here you will meet a kind man called Game. he poi's and would be more than happy for you to do fire poi with him, (his fire poi's.) thailands amazing all i want to do now is get back on the road where after a while everything seemed to make sense and i felt happier than i ever did. Travelling on your own is also an amazing experience although hard at first but it has rewards aswell. Any way over and out, . sam
Posted: I spent 6 weeks in Thailand-it was the best holiday of my life. I went to most of the islands and a bit up north in the goldern triangle near the Laos border. Definately go to Krabi, Hat Ton San. You also have to go to Ko Chang. That is where I first spun poi. On white sand beach. That was absolutely my favourite island. I suggest you go up north to Laos first and then go down south to relax on the islands (depending on the weather-you may need to play it by ear) Ko Chang is next to the Cambodian border and by far the best island. I went in season dec-January. The weather was amasing, the vibe was great, although prices do go up around that time quite significantly. Esp over xsmas, New Year. However if your'e going for 2 mths you'll get a chance to go off the beaten track and explore quiter places that are much cheaper. If you go to the Ko Phangyan, staying on the otherside or away from sunset, sunrise beach is much cheaper and quieter and you can go to the main beaches for the fullmoon party. If you go to Ko Tao, the otherside of the island, quiet a hazardous journey, but introduces you to a far more beautiful and real experience of Thailand. From Krabi you can go on day trips to the more popular expensive islands like Ko Phiphi and go snorkeling on Phi phi Don.
Thailand is so beautiful, you can't go wrong. Have a great trip
Posted: I'm with Libra. Tonsai is one of the best places on this planet, but being a climber might have something to do with that. It's the first place I picked up a staff due to some friendly aussies. There's plently of thai guys to learn from and parties ever few days to perform. I spent about 10US a day there from Nov '01 to Jan. and a bit less for a couple weeks in May. As already mentioned koh Phangnan is a great place to meet other spinners especially for the full moon party, just watch out for the drunk ones. Laos is excellent (about the same cost as cambodia in my travels). I worked in Vang Vieng which gets a lot of backerpackers these days but still plenty of places to go to excape the crowds. Had a hard time finding white fuel there. Actually lit up using petro for my first spin with fire ,not to be repeated. Have a great time there! Any other questions just ask.
