Hey Rich, welcome to my diary. If you're in Foulmouth drop me an email mate, and we'll meet up for sure.
27th May 05
Got up and went to town to buy: 32 litres of paraffin, 8 tubs of bodypaint (various colours), and some spirit gum. Failed to get the spirit gum as the stupid fancy dress shop opens at 11am and closes for lunch again at 1pm. Brad came over and we jumped in our friend Josie's camper van and drove to Newquay, and went to the Trevelgue Campsite, the site for Run to the Sun.
We checked into the site and put up our tents, then Brad and I went down to reception to find out where we needed to go. We discovered that we had a place booked in the crew area, and so we went back to van, quickly disassembled the tents and drove around to there. Set our tents up again, but dragged my stuff into one of the four caravans that were set aside for performers.
Spent the afternoon practising staff and poi, then drove into town with Harriet (one of the other firedancers) and Brad, and bought some food at Safeway. Returned to the site and cooked dinner (chicken in orange and ginger with salad and new potatoes) and then carried all our stuff down the main arena and went backstage to get made up.
Painted myself purple and blue, and Brad painted himself orange and red, and we walked down to the back of the arena to start our show. The security guys cleared a space for us in amongst the punters, and we burned for about an hour. Unfortunately Brad's set of monkey fists broke after about ten minutes, luckily during a stall so the burning wick didnt fly into the audience. That's 3 monkey fist heads in two weeks. I am not sure they're made as well as they used to be.
Discovered quite quickly the following equation: bodypaint + sweat = impossible to do contact staff. Altered my routines so that I always started with staff, and then only moved onto poi when i started getting hot and sweaty. The bodypaint was running off me, and i got paint, sweat and paraffin in my eyes at various stages over the weekend.
Once our first show was over, we went backstage and got stoned, drank lots of free red bull and watched the other acts performing. As well as us there were stilt walkers, acrobats, trapeze artists, loads of dancers, people in robot suits, breakdancers and angle grinders. Despite the fact that the music was all house, we had a really good time, and did a further two shows that night before heading back to the caravans and crashing out.

I really really wish i'd seen you guys perform...don't know how i managed to miss all the performers except the angle grinders and scantily clad dancing girls! - Maybe next year?!
I think i did see someone painted orange but they were dancing around the bottom camping field to the wurzels so i'm guessing that wasn't brad?

Scantily clad dancing girls a-plenty! The angle grinder show was wicked, especially saturday night when there were two guys and two girls showering sparks everywhere. It got fairly perverse at one point, and I was sat between the barrier and the stage, getting showered in hot bits of metal.
Saturday 28th - Monday 30th
Got up about 4pm on the Saturday, and lay in the sun for a bit before having a shower and getting ready for the evening. The theme for Saturday night was Silver and White, so typical of us, Brad and I painted ourselves Blue. (Well, alright, blue and silver)
We did the first show at 10pm, the second at 11.30, and then we were going to do a third, but the arena got so full that security told us the management had cancelled our third show for the night, which was a shame, but made sense as there were several thousand people in there. I was wearing some really tatty cut-off shorts and i managed to set both legs on fire (admittedly at different times).
Instead Brad and I wandered around juggling, poi-ing and CJ-ing, both on the stage and off, and had a wicked time. Judge Jules headlined the night, and although I'm really not a house fan, I have to say I can see why he's one of the UK's best known DJ's. After much dancing about, drinking, getting wasted in the VIP bar and general tomfoolery, we headed back to the caravans and proceeded to get more wasted until the sun came up. Then we all went to bed.
Woke up late (again) on Sunday and lazed. Noone was really in the mood to rush about, so we just loitered about and played with our toys for a bit. For old times sakes Brad and I painted ourselves red from head to toe, albeit with yellow flames rising up our bodies. I also painted a yellow batman mask on my face. Just for the f*ck of it, ya know?
The first show we did went ok. The club was fairly empty early on, and we just wandered about spinning. It was nice not be constrained by a big crowd for a bit. We retired to backstage and chilled for a bit. The second show we did went a lot better...

Monday 30th May - Friday 3rd June 05
Ho hum. Once we got back from Run to the Sun I spent a couple of hours in the shower trying to get caked on bodypaint out of my skin.
Wierd thing to note: If you have any little patches of dry skin the bodypaint will affix itself firmly to these, leaving you with an interesting, yet blotchy, pattern for about a fortnight.
The cool gun metal nail polish took a bit longer, (well, as long as it took for me to borrow some NPR from one of the Polish housemates) which meant I got some very strange looks from people unused to seeing painted men of any variety.
Spent the week panicking and stressing over my case study. It's like this: We are supposed to do a work placement at some Journalistic institution or other, then write a 6-8000 word Case Study on some aspect of the business. I have not done a work placement. I did have one, when I went to India, but on my return was told that the magazine in question didn't have time for me to go there, and from then on I've kinda been in freefall. My tutor and I decided on a different tack for me to take, without doing a placement, and that's what I've been trying to accomplish this last week. Today was the deadline. I just went in to see my tutor, expecting to have to throw myself on his mercy. The conversation went like this:
Jim>> Hi, how are you doing?
Mags>> Ok, although I haven't finished.
Jim>> Ah.
Mags>> I can have it finished by this time next week.
Jim>> Fine. But no later.
Mags>> WOOHOO! ALRIGHT! YEAH M*THERF*CKER! (in my head)
So it would seem I have a stay of execution. So, I just have to come up with that, and a 2000 word propaganda essay, by next Friday. Phew. Manageable, although I'm looking after the kids this weekend and next, so I'll have to just get my head down once they're in bed.
I've spoken to Mojo a couple of times. Still don't know what's happening, other than she says we'll talk when she gets home. I've been doing lots and lots of thinking about my life and what I want from it, as I'm sure she has, so I guess we'll see what happens. I think she's supposed to be flying back at some point in the next week, but I have no idea when.
Maybe, despite the fact that we love each other like mad, we're just wrong for each other. I kinda hope not, but sometimes I wonder...
Anyway, it's a nice day, so I'm off to lock myself in a room with some copies of the Sun. I can feel my nipples getting hard with the thought of all that excitement.

Been at Tamsyn's all weekend with the kids. She and her bf have been here too, so I'm sleeping in the kids room on an airbed. Sucks. Hate airbeds. Going back to Fal tomorrow, and I've got to work my sweet little ass off. Got to finish my case study and do an essay. At least once it's done I can relax and get on with getting a job. And I need a job.
Spoke to Mojo today. Still no closer to understanding what's going on, except people have been telling her that I've cheated on her. Or that I've said that I have. Or something. I guess it's up to her what happens. I'm sure everything will work out fine.
Very dull, my life at the moment. Come July, I won't have time to sit down. Fireshows every weekend except one, and that's only cos it's Fal4.
Tis all good. Shame I can't sort insurance out til september (cos it runs sept -sept), but i guess i'll just have to be paid less for this season.
I spend all my time listening to Nick Drake, Jeff Buckley and Elliott Smith. Why do dead people sing so well?
Incidentally, it should be noted that I am a poker demon. Say no more.

Monday 6th June 05
Got back to Falmouth about 1pm. Tamsyn dropped me to Bodmin and i trained it the rest of the way. I popped round to see Mark before we left, and as he hasn't managed to fix my guitar yet (cos it's in his car and he's lost his car keys) he lent me one of his, a rather lovely electric acoustic i've been eyeing up for a while. Might purchase it. Hmmm. We shall see.
Loz and Adam came over shortly after I got in, for gardening reasons primarily, but we ended up (after Ad and I had had a bit of a play on the new guitar) listening to Elliott Smith and watching South Park season 9. Teehee. Then they left, Joss came over for a bit (gardening again) and then I came into college to sort out a couple of interviews for my case study.
I need to go to the shop in a minute and get some phone credit, baccy, rizla and milk. Then I shall go home and attempt to write more of my case study introduction, and no doubt play guitar.
Nothing exciting planned this week. Just work. Probably won't even go to circus skills tomorrow. Work work work. (I really should have done this a month ago...:))

Monday 6th June 05
Got back to Falmouth about 1pm. Tamsyn dropped me to Bodmin and i trained it the rest of the way. I popped round to see Mark before we left, and as he hasn't managed to fix my guitar yet (cos it's in his car and he's lost his car keys) he lent me one of his, a rather lovely electric acoustic i've been eyeing up for a while. Might purchase it. Hmmm. We shall see.

I'm pretty sure Mojo got back today. I sent a text to her phone a few days ago, and it delivered this afternoon. I was in the middle of interviewing the editor of Stranger magazine for my case study when I noticed the delivery report arrive on my phone. I'll try and ring her later.
I'll be pulling an allnighter tonight I think, and probably again tomorrow, in an attempt to actually finish the 2nd year. It's a bit daunting. And there are one or two other things on my mind that keep distracting me...
Ah well, I'm sure it'll be cool. I just have to spend every waking moment writing. How hard can it be?
