uh-huh uh-huh! biggrin

Just booked the tickets, my new passport should be with me within a week and when it arrives I can apply for the online visa.
Details are as follows:

Leave London Heathrow 24th September 22:30 - Arrive ADELAIDE on 26th September 11:30
Leave SYDNEY 27th November.

So its two months of seeing you lovely lot ubblove

My plans are as follows:
Go to Australia.
Work way up SE coast staying with as many friends as possible.
Return to England 2 months on.

and thats about it, Ive spent ages thinking of what to do, then realised you would all know anyway. So, like Lightning did in London, im leaving myself in your hands ( umm ) If you reckon something would be good to do or see then tell me and I'll see if I can.

I want to go to lots of spinning meetings.
I want to meet as many of you as possible.
I wish to chase Bender naked through a field of corn. umm
I want to spend some time doing nothing on a beach.

Im going to this Common Ground thing too. Is there a spare tent/ space anywhere for me to squeeze into please? The JonCof International Tent Errecting Service, Mobile Skinning Up Workstation and Hug Distributor should also be fully functional. ubbangel
Can I get some sleeping space on the floor/ sofa/ spare room/ compost heap at your house please? *flutters eylids*

My questions:
Is CG like Play (99% HOPpers only)? or is it more of a public event where the average Joe Human will be walking around? umm
What will the weather generally be like for the duration of my stay?
Is there cake in Australia?
Can John Howard collect me from the airport in a monster truck?

Would it be worth me bringing my laptop to put all my pictures from my phone onto and to change the music collection on my phone? Reckon you this is a silly idea and I should just get a digital camera and a MP3 player instead?

Can I meet Crocodile Dundee? Can I? Can I?
Who is Bruce? confused

I assume I will need a plug convertor for any electronic equipment I bring. Can this be confirmed? This is a code red situation. I dont want to bring my white noise generator with me only to find out I cant plug it in anywhere.

I will probably have more questions at a later date of a serious nature, but I think thats all the major ones I need. Thanks everyone hug2 kiss

Oh, and by the way, I have NO interest in watching the Ashes in November ubblol

bounce Im very excited! bounce

You can get to the reef from Airlie on board Fantasea's reefjet; it's about a four hour trip out to their own little reeflet where you can dive within a meshed enclosure, or you can sleep on the pontoon and have it to yourself at night. The day's trip plus dive/snorkle is about $170, don't know how much the sleepy thing is, you may be able to see some whales too, but it might be towards the end of whale season. If you want to go swimming in the tropics that time of year, hire a stinger suit. They look like some weird fetish outfit and all the locals will laugh at you, but it beats having a box jellyfish wrapped around your face.

The reef itself is far more readily accessable the further north you go, but if you don't want to go all the way to Cairns (not worth it, the place is a tourist dollar-grabbing hole, but then, so is Airlie), then Airlie is your best bet.

You can get your basic pay-as-you-go phone for $50. Watch the service provider though; when you're outside of cities you get very little reception. I've found Telstra to be the best (Vodaphone coverage is rank!). I've heard you can hire CDMA phones if you want to go more bush, but don't have a clue where you'd pick one of those up.

Incedentally, if you're lugging stuff around and staying in low cost accommodation, do you really want to be carrying a laptop? Anywhere you need to email you'll find a cafe or HOPper with a computer, plus with the crap phone coverage... (see paragraph above).

There is a slight possibility that I am not actually right all of the time.

Cool, cheers for the info. hug2

I dont need the phone itself, as I already have a phone that will work. I hate Vodafone anyway so definatly wouldnt be choosing them.

Im going to be getting the travel insurance for all my stuff anyway, just in case the worst should happen.

All of australia's domestic power is, as far as i know, 240 volt, 50 hertz. Your average power point will deliver 10 amps of current, though some have a 15 amp socket. the 10 amper's look like this:
/ \
-|
(provided hop doesn't mess up my ascii art)

K, not exactly how i wanted it, but close enough. If you can see the white -, ignore it, and pretend that the | is dead in the middle of the / \
smile

And the 15's look the same, except the bottom bit is slightly longer. well, wider. ah, you might see what i mean.

Any <10 amp appliance can be plugged into a 10 or a 15 amp socket, but a 15amp appliance won't fit into a 10.

(basically, if you can plug it in, it's all good)

Mr_Maj: I dunno how long it could be for. But that certainly looks like a pretty place.

Pete: It would be lovely if you could meet me at the airport. I fear I will be slightly jet lagged, slightly scared, and slightly confused as to pretty much everything going on. Having someone there would be ace biggrin

MiG: Cheers for the picture, I now know the exact type you talk of. kiss I'd better be getting to meet you at CG tongue
