Interesting note on the news today. McDonald's Corp. has posted a US$335 million loss this quarter. This is McDonald's first quarterly loss ever, apparently.

I'm not holding my breath waiting for Mickey-Dee's to go under, though.

I wonder is this at all related to their recent lawsuit involving fixed Monopoly sweepstakes games? They were supposed to have a settlement of some millions and millions of dollars awarded to people in a new contest though I've heard nothing about it...maybe the loss is due to legal charges of some sort. Or maybe people all over the world are finally realizing what crap they serve there. I mean c'mon, the chicken mcnuggets aren't even cut out to be pet food.

We have a Wendy's in our hospital. Hopefully, this strikes you as preposterous. It pisses me off.

The reason is because the hospital administration did a survey of patients and found that that's what patients wanted. So they put a Wendy's there.

I wish it had been a Subway. I'd be OK with that.

So here we are in the second most obese state in the nation in a hospital that serves most of the state outside of Detroit and we have people who are visiting their friends and family in the hospital after a heart attack and they are going down and grabbing a Wendy's.

Oh, and patients can elect to have their hospital meals replaced with a voucher that can be spent at the hospital cafeteria or...you guessed it...at Wendy's.

Meanwhile, I'm going to be spending inordinate amounts of time at the hospital next year and I'm a vegetarian. What the heck am I supposed to do about food? I won't have time to make my own at home unless I want to live on PB&J sandwiches.

I swear, if I had the time, I'd love to bring a malpractice suit against the hospital administrators for having a Wendy's in the hospital. You might as well allow smoking on the wards, too.

fastfood at a hospital . I suppose ya gotta laugh at the irony, especially giving out vochers to spend there!

I heard that the amount of outlets that Mc'D's open in UK each year has reduced for the first time this decade.

One of the most brilliant men in the world, Ray Croc, founder of the McDonalds chain (not the first resturaunt mind you) has been dead for about 12 years now. He still makes something like 2-3 billion dollars a year. Personally if I made 2-3 billion I could care less if I lost 400 mil!

The McDonalds corperation owns more property than the Catholic Church!

I doubt we will see it go anywhere for a long long time!

Jello, I know some very good cardiologists for you at the Mayo Clinic. I think they can do 40 endartectomies for $6000. Special price just for you.

Hooray for Newtwon!!! One of those magical places where they had to close McDonalds because of lack of business...

It was a day for screaming at inanimate objects.

Reading "Fast food nation" at the moment and apparently they used to cook the chicken nuggets in beef fat. Then they had to change it cause of the fat content so now they use vegtable oil with beef fat flavouring. Cool huh?

I live in a world of infinite possibilities.

As Ray pointed out they aren't really in the business of making crappy food - they're real estate magnates. They let the little man own and run their businesses taking the cut from that and OWN the land they have the resteraunt in.

McDonalds is satan

Berzerker... umm... no.

McDonald's Inc. Burger University and Golden State Food Products are nothing more than suppliers.

The individual owner owns the land, and the building, the only thing they do is buy Golden State food and utalise Burger University training methods and pay rights to McDonald's Inc. for the name of the resturant. All in all the owner is makeing dollars while the "Satan" parent organisation is making cents.

True there are enough individual frachises around the world that the parent corperation is raking cash left and right, but the individual amout of money sent to the corperation is negligent when compared to the money made by the idividual resturaunt.

It is sad that your Cafe closed but I saw my favorite eatery close to Pizza Hut. Personally I love Pizza Hut, but it sucks that I cant get the worlds best meatball sub due to that damn place. Ohh well life goes on.

I got at least 4 Mc-shites within 5 mins drive of my house.. lets hope they decide to shut one down now.. I've noticed that the clientelle that they drag in off the streets aren't exactly the most eco loving type of people.. I aways find Mc-boxes and drinks shoved into my hedge!! Can't they put another mind controlling drug in the to stop littering? In most towns it seems to be McDoanlds crap everywhere..

Ray, I have seen both the Military and VA medical system and....they are SCARY.

Given, being a medical student, I get the best medical care that you can ever get. And my doctor doesn't charge me for office visits (he charges me for tests and procedures, but he gives me his time for free), but it sure is a good thing that you have to be healthy to join the military because while they are pretty good at treating trauma, their treatment of other problems (particularly psychiatric) is frightening.

Another thought being, besides the people who don't want to join the military, there are also people who can't....

As far as Wendy's, that's preposturous.

*shakes head*

I'd make you food next year mikey, but you live too far away. And you'd get sick of my food eventually too. (But at least you could, like, have cool sandwiches )

Then move to the UK, where an underfunded, understaffed NHS will treat you, free 'at the point of service'.
(ps. Wendy's is some sort of high fat restaurant then huh? Never had the pleasure...)

Ray, must be different in the states cause here the property value of a lot of their locations is *way* out of reach of the average investor/owner.

McDonald's buy the site build the resteraunt and take tenders on who wants to run the business. I doubt vey much they are make "cents".

A friend of mine's father owns two McDonald's and well he is the only one that owns them too. He complained one year when his take home for the year was only 1.7 million from the one store I worked at it. Then again what can I say... the town only had 12,000 people in it when college was in session!

hehe

Mike, other than the take an excedrin and drink some water to cure that gun shot wound mentality that the Corpsmen have hehe the few times that I have had to go into the hospital I have recieved great treatment, then again I dont know any other service as I grew up in the military.

6 inch spiral fracture on my left tibia and a sprained ankle they seemed to take care of that pretty good. damn trampolines!

Anyhow things arnt as bad as people think.

Mc Donald's supposedly has been gaining less and less profit (though it seems they're still doing okay) than they have in the past for at least the past year now. That's why they're picking up their advertising again like I havn't seen since I was a little kid - bringing back the characters (like the big purple guy) and all.... Their employees are supposed to start smiling again like they were known for back in the day. They want to make it as popular as it was in the past, but times are changing. Maybe (and I'd hope)health conciousness has something to do with it, but there are numerous reasons.
Regardless, I'm thinking that worldwide they are still gaining much more than sufficient... Oh, and Wendy's has good frosties. As anything of the sort, you shouldn't have one everyday, but occasionally I think it can be argued that they're healthy...Good luck finding veggie food Mike. It will be doable.... I'm quite often a PB and banana sandwich girl for work, but I change it up when needed. I'm sure you'll find a way to make it healthily through med school!

wow, people actually want others to be jobless. Yep those teens that work there dont need to learn about the job market. Hell it is the fact the the public schools dont teach financial literatcy that makes summer jobs so populer.

Still it aint cool that someone would want a business to close that would tank alot of jobs.
