I have no idea if this has been asked before. I'm not going to search for music cos it will bring up newbies asking whats the best music to spin to.

But does anyone find that the music they listen to is the opposite of their personality? For those who know me, I can be kind of crazy and insane, but the music I listen to is quite chilled out. One of my friends ommented on this and said he knows someone who is the same.

Anyone else find this?

ps: whats the best music to spin to? wink

I listen to whatever mood I WANT to be in. Since music has such a profound effect on me.

Right now, it's a snow day and I'm home snuggled up listening to "Classical Guitar" on digitallyimported.com

NICE and chill. smile

Well, shall we go?

well, it might be a matter or how the people know you. I used to listen to slipknot and exodus and i used to head bang, but really, im actually a pretty sweet guy... i dont cross the line. Its just that no one will know you more than you do. Thats a fact. Now, as for me, ive changed alot. Im listening to new age music like enigma, enya, deep forest. For that, i blame poi biggrin and the bezerker are... well were completely amazing. I dont Listen to any metal and hard rock music. I guess im just a techno boy... biggrin

Are there more people like me, who get chilled by deathmetal music and every other fast, loud, heavy music and get aggressive by chilling music, like meditationbirdthing- and ocean- etc music? I really can't listen to meditation music, it freaks me out (And that sort of music can be really good)!! Is that crazy?

Triptoe: when I'm angry and want to calm down I usually throw on some metal or rock, good to just get anger out through the music, and all is well.

When people look at me they would take me as a metal/rock type person... which I am (although I am not a metalhead). However I also like artists such as Tracy Chapman, John Butler Trio, and Cat Empire. I like Mandy Moore and boy bands from the 2000's. Pop-punk and what is know known as "wanna-be punk" so Good charlotte, Simple Plan. Then I get into bands like Arrogant Worms (which are quite a patriotic band, unfortunatly I'm not Canadian like they are).
One of my friends has recently gotten me into The Pixies, which doesn't fit in there either.
So yes, what I listen to can be the opposite of how others see me, but none of my music tastes make sense!

I think people on the street would be surprised at my music tastes, but my friends know me well enough to know they suit me and always have.

I tend to dress in a fairly normal jeans and t-shirt, boardering on business casual manner, with your odd bit of silly girly jewllery and make-up when i go out, but i listen to anything from pop-punk (blink-182, millencollin, bodyjar etc.) through punk and hardcore (anti-flag, sick of it all, poison the well) to metal (slipknot, system of a down, korn) and there's usually a good amount of altern/indie kinda stuff (eskimo joe's old stuff, everclear, foo fighters, ben folds five) and then there's just weird things like the dresden dolls (i ubblove the dresden dolls)

And my music tastes have changed since! I still like the stuff I liked when I made this (which was Epicure, Lamplight, Jeff Buckley and others) however I've gotten a lot more dancy and therefore a lot more like my personality! ubblol

my music preferences usually coincide with my mood. i find i don't like types of music or bands i just like certain songs that seemed to be picked randomly from Rammstein to Cat Empire right through to footloose. yes i can openly admit i love footloose! but as i said it depends on my mood

And all the unknown bands and artists I'm into- Antiskeptic, Standing Tall, Fido, Fozzy, The Duke, Stuck Mojo, Walk The Earth, Superheist (now broken up though).

FozInDocs: someone introduced me to Dresden Dolls at Christmas when I was in Sydney- Coin Operated Boy- haven't heard anything else though

noizenoizenoize! In fact I'm the only spinner I know who pois to music that sounds like a metal chair being scraped across a bonnet.

and as to how music can have the opposite affect to expectations...

me='i'm just going to go chill and sleep and relax to some nice music for a while'
my housemates='ok'....

later on music echoes out of Ree's room...*doufbangEEEEEERRRRdoufBANGeeeeerrrrrrscrapescrapeBANGdouf...*

later still....
me-stumbles out of room
housemates='we thought you were going to listen to relaxing music!!!my ears hurt!!'
me='but that was my chillout cd....'

spinning to death metal proper gets me pumped up but inevitably leaves me tired, aching and very sweaty (oo er) so generally after that ill whack on some classical and have a chill spin. stuff like hardcore / psytrance is ok (i guess) if your in a club or what have you, but certainly wouldnt be my first choice. clowncore on the other hand, phat to spin to, gives you loads of energy and has a paht bouncy beat https://www.myspace.com/edcox
or something along those lines...check it out anyhoo.

we were somewhere near barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the drugs began to take hold...
