We've been watching Firefly which is the series that accompanies the movie....to start off with it was boring as bat poo but if you manage to get through the first 15 minutes of the first episode it picks up and now we are hooked.

We are going to see the movie this weekend.

Tell me about it. When I first saw it I though I would never watch it again. Now I won't miss an episode. It's on late Friday nights biggrin

I can't wait to see the movie.

I actually just read the book (based on the screenplay), which, while not a particularly good book, kept me amused for a good few hours.

Sounds a bit gruesome, but I'll go see it.

serenity was awesome, i saw it at about 2am during a movie marathon and sure as hell didnt fall asleep during it! over the last month i've been watching my friends box set of firefly and its soo great! they never actually say why production was stopped either, its all a tad sad.

Production stopped due to the ratings...

The execs never knew how to sell it - Sci-Fi Western Comedy Drama Action?

Plus - TV series that take their time telling stories at their own pace tend to get cancelled these days...

The film was brilliant....

OK, am I missing something? I watched Serenity and it was the biggest piece of poo-balls ever.
The best part about this film is that it bored me so much I got to fall asleep halfway through biggrin

There is ALWAYS room to move with Mr Whedon's story arcs.. he manages to do the strangest things to keep a series going.

Good god I love fierfly. Sorry buy Serenity was nothing compared to the TV series. I almost fell in love with River and Mal. My backdrop is River and... *drools*. And if I weren't going through a straight phase I'd so have Mal wink

He's said that he'd love to do more movies based on the Firefly 'verse

You been reading his run on 'Astonishing X-Men' ?- it is rather brilliant (narrowly eclipsed by Grant Morrison's 'New X-Men') but if you're missing your Whedon fix you can do worse that check of the Astonishing X-Men trade paperbacks...

I love the pilot episode of the series. Mal's reaction to Rivers discovery just makes that episode. Serenity was good but as much as I love that movie I hate the ending! Where was the need in a 'happy-ish' ending? I want a sequel!

LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT

Oh, and did I mention...I LOVE IT!

Whedon's best creation yet in my eyes. The combination was pure genious. Love the show. Love the movie.
Own them.

Sci Fi and Whedon both released that discussions have been started to revisit the show with new episodes and/or made for tv movies. Many of the prevelent actors were already starring in some other projects so the negotiations were taking their time. Thanks Sci-fi magazine for that. wink

One of the other things I always found amusing is how many of the cast had actually had appearances on Angel and/or Buffy. Both the main cast such as "Mal", "River" and "Zoe" as well as many of the tertiary guests.

I also think that one of the best episodes is one that never made it to (american at least) television. If the best was saved already, I can't wait to see what else could come. I mean...how many times did Buffy die and he still turned it around. wink
I simply think it was marketted originally badly and towards the wrong geeks.

The only reason Firefly didn't kick off with good ratings was because in American apparently they put it up against Buffy on another channel....I mean seriously Buffy....it didn't really stand much of a chance....

I watched serenity and about the only thing I remember about it was that it made no sense to me at all.. I'm assuming this is because it was 3 in the morning and I was *ahem* under the 'influence' *chough* *cough* I imagine it would be a very good movie.. if watched at a reasonable time and whilst in a reasonable sate of mind...

TOP 10 FIREFLY/SERENITY MOMENTS

10. River 'fixing' Shepherd Book's Bible (Can you imagine her contribution to the 'Intelligent Design vs Evolution' thread?)
'Walk away preacher man...'

9. The red-leather clad assassin sneaking onto the ship after everyone has gone to bed. He starts to creep stealthily around the corridor when Captain Mal casually and unexpectedly walks into shot...

8. Book telling Mal that if he takes advantage of his innocent new bride he will go to a 'Special Level of Hell, reserved for child molesters, and people who talk in movie theatres'

7. Inara taking an unladylike pratfall after kissing an unconscious Mal's drugged lips 'oh you stupid son of a...' *faint*

6. Alliance Officier interogating everyone on the ship. He probes Zoe about the nature of her marriage to Wash. She remains stern and offers nothing, saying 'we're very private people'.
Cut to - Wash: 'THE LEGS! Oh boy! have you ever BEEN with a warrior woman...?''

5.
Wash: River's a psychic? Sounds like something out of science-fiction.
Zoe: You live on a spaceship honey...

4. Jayne making sure everyone is strapped in whilst the Serenity goes into a tailspin during the Reavers/Alliance battle. A hard-ass who still makes sure everyone else is alright before strapping himself in. Awwwww

3. Captain Mal telling Simon (having told him that if Kaylee dies, he's off the ship) that Kaylee is dead. Cue - slow motion shot of Simon runing to the infirmary only to find Kaylee, alive, well and cheery.
'The Man's insane!'
Cut to Mal, Zoe and Wash on the bridge pissing themselves

2. "I am a leaf on the wind... watch how I......."

1. Simon is shot and everyone is surrounded by Reavers. No chance of escape.
River: 'You take care of me Simon, you've always taken care of me...... MY turn...'
CUE MAJOR ASS KICKING
