Now. I have two suggestions for you..

Either.. Irritate and confuse them so much that they give up... or.. simply ignore the email.

Its up to you.

Yes, I got the one, apparently she was looking for love with me (and the money thing-was realy long, same as the first one), obviously didn't realise I'm a girl! I think Malcolm's sorted it now though.

This is a 419er scam - person contacts you wanting to use your bank account to move a large sum of money around, they can't use their own due to legal argybargy, in exchange they let you keep 5%, which usually works out as some jaw dropping amount of money. Soon there's a problem and they need a few thousand for some fee. Then they disappear.

This one is inspired

I can't find the whole thing but i know it's somewhere on www.419eater.com but this one made me giggle

Give me a lever long enough and a place to stand and I can beat the world into submission.

Whenever I get nonsense like Bonsai Kittens or the Nigerian Money scam (of which the above is a variation...) from someone I actually know I send back a link like this one, leading to scam and hoax bust sites.
with a message like "free gift with every timewasting hoax"

and deduct 5 brownie points.

If they do it again I write explaining that I do not appreciate being taken for a fool and as they are a friend I would prefer they stopped portraying themselves as one also.

Harsh but effective. For their own goos, promotes research skills etc

However a lot of these scam things are sent from random addresses eg 'aadvark.p.loveletter@webcrawl.net

Best to ignore them as to respond just comfirms your address is authentic

Exactly, only ever reply to people you know or to email from strangers you were expecting or seems genuine.

Um, it could be funny if there was actually aperson at the other end who was interested in clear and positive communication.. rather than an automated webcrawl program and who knows what else in terms of malicious intentions... wink

Cantus, admit it, you LOVE us falling all over you! wink

the ones i LOVE are the ones where if you send them to 10, 20, 30 people, britney and christina will kiss or justin will kiss christina and they britney will slap her. When i first got one i passed it on to a few friends saying "do people seriously do this?"...and i think one of my friend might have believed it cos i remember getting another one back about a month later from one of my friends!!!

i would have changed ***** to phallus, and claire to petey Petey

Rougie: but that's what I'm doing here
Arnwyn: what letting me adjust myself in your room?..don't you dare quote that on HoP...

And when I'm finished entertaining my new friend ie: they start asking for money, I'll start forwarding all my junk mail.... I know they'll appriciate it.

It's been posted before, but this remains my all-time favourite reply to people who feel the need to send me things that will bring me bad luck and no goats for the next 7 years if I don't pass them on, inform me about the newest, deadliest computer virus that will also steal all my left socks etc. smile I think they usually get the message!

I used to get a whole crapload of spam like that, and got the "I need help getting money into the country" one several times. Then I started to reply to all of them. From a seperate email address. The gist of my emails was:

Dear sir,
Thank you for your offer, however, I regret to inform you I may not accept. I am currently in prison for fraudlent internet activities and most of my contacts are closely monitored and investigated. As I am a professional, however, I have managed to create this email address to allow me to send outgoing mail. I thought it only fair to warn you that it is more than likely that since I opened your email the authorities will be tracking you down and asking you questions. I wish you the best of luck, good day.

Interestingly enough, my incoming spam dropped noticably... foolish bastards. biggrin biggrin

Has anyone seen the site where people persuade the scammer to do stupid stuff for money (sorry if it's one of the links, I've not checked.) Basically you reply to them saying "sure I'll give you my bank details, as long as you send me a photo wearing a tutu and holding up a sign that says Southampton FC Woz Robbed..." or similar.

I've heard of one guy who wrote to them saying he could only help out people who were part of his church, and for $50 they could join. He got $50 from someone in Nigeria.

There is a slight possibility that I am not actually right all of the time.

this

is indeed a witty if somewhat swearladen response, but eek it is supposedly written by Basmaati Kazaar, who is a DJ on our local reggae station! I Wonder if he took his name from it??
