On Wednesday, at the age of 85, James Doohan died. This is undoubtably the greatest tragety since DeForset Kelley died.

It's sad, but I think characterizing it as "the greatest tragedy since DeForest Kelley died" is overblown...it's not even the greatest tragedy in the last two weeks (7/7 anyone?).

I'm sure that was written in a fit of Trek fannishness, and I'm sympathetic to that. It's the biggest Trek tragedy since DeForest Kelley died, but do let's be rational.

When someone close to you dies, and something else happens, you dont say "ah well that was worse so the death of said close person can be put in perspective". Have a heart man. One death is as bad as many.

Damn, that makes me cringe. "7/7", like it's not a proper tragedy until it's got a cool number.

I wonder why the Americans seem to think it's a bigger deal than we do. Probably cos they've forgotten how much American money bought the bombs that, throughout the '70's, 80's and 90's, helped us get accustomed to terrorist attacks.

Numberless ones.

Sorry, got a bit offtopic there. But it's half 3 in the morning, so I'm sure you'll forgive me.

RIP Scotty, and everyone who shares his death day.
