I've been poi:ing (?) for almost two weeks now and I've learned alot. It's really fun and cool, and I really think that it's time for me to order some real poi so I get used to something else than my homemade made of simple rope.....

Anyhow, I didn't know when I could say that I can master a move, so I tried to close my eyes while doing it... DANG! I slapped to poi into my face.... This was when I was doing reversed BTB weave... So, I tried another move, some simple weave, reversed weave, and BTB weave... I did it! With closed eyes! Now I can do 360 degrees turn while doing the weave and with closed eyes! It's a really good training to see if you really are that good that you believe! Well, I guess you veterans allready knew this, but I found it very helpful!

So, all newbies out there, try it out! It makes you feel more secure on the move! weavesmiley

I discovered I could do the inverted 3bt cleanly by trying it with my eyes closed- the feel was so improved I was actually isolating it better than when I was looking smile

I actually find it a little harder to spin with my eyes closed.

I tend to hit myself a lot when i have my eyes closed, i been playing around with closing my eyes recently. Although i don;t keep my eye on the poi when I have my eyes open, i think i can just kind of judge where the poi are though.

i usually ask myself if i left the iron on while swingin... and hit myself the whole time, maybe i should try closing my eyes and still hit myself like allways, at least it will be something new.

THe way I see it.. if you can do something poi wise with your eyes closed... you have it learnt.

and its the same for juggling if you can look through the pattern.

Spinning blindfolded is fun... I find that I can actually spin better blindfolded than I can when I'm watching. You can feel where everything is and become more aware of where bits of you are. I've never tried blindfolded with fire though.

Does anyone know a good thread where the buzzsaw is described, I really want to know what that is!

However, a buzzsaw is where you shorten your poi a bit, and spin them both inside your arms.

i spun quite a lot with closed eyes before, and found it helpful. i don't know why i've forgot to practise that...

oli: it's ok for you to screw up with cloed eyes, because those tricks you'll try is probably more advanced than the tricks i'll be preforming in the end of this year. >_<

Haha, I didn't see that someone allrdy had said what I buzzsaw was!

Is it hard, and is it dangerous? I mean, you can hit yourself with fire in your face, and can you be hit by sparks?

No one said what it was. smile

I just searched and found that so you didnt even have to click a button to goto another page tongue

"Is it hard, and is it dangerous? I mean, you can hit yourself with fire in your face, and can you be hit by sparks? " - Im going to assume you are talking about doing a buzzsaw here..

Is it hard: No.

and is it dangerous? only if you are spinning industrial grade search and rescue flares. Or spinning circular saws.

can (you) hit yourself with fire in your face: Yes you can. I dont know why you would want to though...

and can you be hit by sparks?: Only if you ask him first. or if you continued to use the industrial grade search and rescue flares, even after you knew of the dangers. Or when using wire wool. Or if you havent spun off properly and flaming paraffin htis you. or No, in other words.

I definately think this has something to do with a learning process

But i go by muscle memory, especially if im used to how my poi are weighted. I can do some routines/combos with my eyes closed, but know where the poi are at all times

Though I could use many large words to describe our predicament, all I can say is... "We're screwed."

Ok ive had about it with closed eyes spinning, i tried some stuff out and it did work, was playing smothly, was even feeling proud of myself, until i had the idea to try a buzzsaw tangle ubbidea
i think there are some moves you have to have your eyes open or be well trained in the jedi arts if not ull end up with a damaged lip just like me censored

I found that with most moves having my eyes closed helps. I can try a move that Im not getting over and over, but then I just close my eyes and sort of "feel" peace the way the poi moves. I find that learning the "feel" works better for me than learning the way it looks, cant say it works for ALL the moves though... redface

When you close your eyes you loose one king of perception, so it looks like than the others, like to smell,to touch,to hear are more connected and it can bring different kind of feeling while spinnig.

Poi lives from rhythm so if you hear a sound, to see what's around isnt needed and if you can hit yourself?, of course, all the time smile,

yea, spinning with ur eyes closed is good, it helps me get the feel once i have a move but its still abit messy, getting the move to start with tho i need my eyes open, to see where things are, why the move isnt working...and to giv me some warning when poi come flying at ur face--that split second warning can make all the difference...

It took a while, but once their numbers dropped from 50 down to 8, the other dwarves started to suspect Hungry.

It need a strong self-control to get into it. Fire is in your hands, you feel it every moment. There is no body, there is no space, there is you and fire, that evolve energy to flow. Trance, you can get into a trance where everything is possible.

Its so far and you can touch it, you feel it, no, stop it. Start again. Its position of spirit and body, dance, movement, some kind of meditation. Forget trick, forget moves, listen the rhythm smile

I saw a somewhat recent video of Nick Woolsey spinning at a club of some sort with his eyes closed. Of course he was flawless and the closed eyes added soo much to his performance its rediculous. He looked like he was sleeping and dreaming his movements. What a bastage smile

Spinning with your eyes closed teaches you to feel the pull of the poi on your fingers. As a big fan of slow, gentle, constant pulling on the poi, I like spinning with my eyes closed.
