I know what you mean. The A1 was a bugger for stoppages (I had several on my recruits course) but I had no dramas with the A2 - although the guy in the firing pit next to me had 3 rounds get stuck on the way out (although the new cocking handle is supposed to minimise this! - perhaps he didn't prep it properly?) but there are no gas stoppages due to larger gas components smile

The mag is made of proper metal (instead of like cardboard) and has a shiny new plate in the top. Other than that, it just feels sturdier and more accurate.

Ahhh, the ol gimpy - haven't seen one of those in ages! As for the SLR, there were a load of spec ops guys firing all kinds of firearms - one guy actually had an SLR in the cook house ubbloco

Afternoon MM

Have been in since Crimbo and am now on GAPS and trade. Luckily, I've been away loads with my unit (some units don't let recruits out with them until they've passed out) but because of past cadet experience, they let me join in almost immediately. Did 2 weeks at Pirbright (niiiiice) - I thought this was the worst cook house in the world until I got back from Folkestone. I think I'd rather eat rat packs than the stuff they served up there (and the death bags!) My stomach's still recovering lol.

With the changes, comes some downsides though. Most of the metal has been coated and can't be scotch brighted (although whack a load of oil on the gas parts and leave them for ten minutes and you can wipe off the carbon with cloth)

We're being issued our personal rifles this week so it was nice to be first in our unit to use them.

MM, you a P.O?

NYC - RUN ubbloco

sounds like your enjoying the TA, my little bro is at pirbright right now actually!
as for the food you need to visit my unit as the mess puts out some real nice food but some times worst than horror bags and/or rat pack!

nyc- run very fast!

Cool - He must be one of the last troops because they're doing loads of building works and withdrawing TA training until the end of the year (or something like that).

If you get to speak to your brother, tell him to look out for Cpl Hamilton - short Scots fellow who likes to threaten a lot (much to our amusement "I'll stab yer foo*in eyes oot!") He'll be in the new blocks lucky git - we were the last troop to use the old blocks but I think it helped bring the guys together more (if that makes sense?) What reg is he with? We had Sigs/L.I./RLC/AGC and maybe some others but I think mainly Logistics.

So are you a P.O or actually starting your training? A few of my friends have decided to go down that route - good luck to 'em lol. I wouldn't accept any rank higher than full screw (Sgt at a real push), provided I get that far lol.

Ba da da da daaaa, I'm luvin' it!

got to fire off a few mags worth on the bren before they scrapped them off and bought in the a1, the l.s.w. i didn't realy like as it only holds a 30 round mag..... but you are told to only put 28 rounds in because of all the strain on the weedy little spring inside the mag

AH I see. How was main board? I've made a few mates who are still at the PO stage and have their main board next month (although some are questionable!)

The PO's I know who signed up as PO's (rather than selected) are definately at a lower calibre and I'm really nervous that the Army is letting these people in. I mean, some of them don't know their acensoredse from their earole!

Glad you're enjoying it though - I would have gone in to the regs if it weren't for a back op I had when I was a kid!!!!! But I'm going to sign up to tour as soon as I'm qualified at the end of the year.

i took the a2 out to iraq last year....

...i was expecting greatness, i didn't really think there was much difference, sure they've made some minor changes, but then i never really had any problems with my a1!

i still think they should scrap it all together and go for something the m16!

I think not... wink

You cant use M16s.

America uses them already tongue

Standard issue no?

I think the British Army should invest in some CPS-2100's

Then again, if they did that, this kid could take them all on single handedly.

Oh yeah.. and what have you against the SA80? (or am I being uber dense and not realising you are talking about the SA80 A1 + A2 anyway? umm )

SA80 = 5.56 (it's not actually called an SA80, that's kind of like the brand type). We used to get in to trouble if we called it that.

Anyone remember these?

1)The position and hold must be firm enough to support the weapon.

2)The weapon must point naturally at the target without undue physical effort.

3)Sight allignment and picture must be correct.

4)The shot must be fired and released without undue disturbance to the position.
