It's not quite important, but I'm very excited right now and I absolutely must tell everyone I can ^.^'
As some or all of you may know, I'm still in high school, now finishing off my 11th year (out of 12 years in the Canadian system). I'm still a year away from university but now is when I have to start selecting all the courses for school to decide where I want to take my education after high school.
Well I am part of the 'gifted' or 'enhancement' program. It's a bunch of geeks who are too smart for their own good. Our school's trivia team just placed 5th in the province (out of 24 at the tournament which was the top 3 from each region, the largest sized tournament they've had in god knows how long lol), which was quite an accomplishment for us.
Now I just got the results back from my teacher about a special program I had applied for at Queen's University. It's a small 1 week interactive course designed to give the 'youth of the future' a better idea of some of their courses of interest.
for more information you can see their website for it...https://www.queensu.ca/enrichment/EMC2/index.php
My choices happened to be 4 of the most exclusive courses they had ^.^'
Hands On Pathology
The Psychology of Criminal Behaviour
Child and Adolescent Psychopathology
and a Photography course.
That was the order I choose them in as well (although, my teacher who I was doing this through was a bit freaked out and thought I was a bit messed in the head from the darker nature of the courses (on the most part) I was taking).

So I found out today, not only did I get into the program (which I was a little skeptical about at first), but I got into my top choice (Pathology) for my course smile So hopefully it will be alot of fun and I'll make some friends and get some new people into spinning and have a blast!

Pathology is one of my favorite subjects, acutally. REALLY cool stuff. You get to learn about all the funky ways that the body malfunctions. I hope they let you handle some specimens and teach you histopathology (the microscopic stuff). It's really interesting.

And, of course, if you happen to have any questions...I'm always happy to help!

Congrats, dude! hug

I'm so excited, I get to live on resicence and everything lol biggrin

This “Hands on Pathology” course will be a vibrant and exciting interactive exploration of the multifaceted world of pathology. Students will each be assigned a forensic case and will solve the cause of death in the case by week’s end. Students will gown, glove and actively participate in the processing of a surgical specimen direct from the operating room. During visits to the autopsy suite they will have numerous opportunities to handle human tissue manifesting different disease entities. Numerous guest speakers including forensic pathologists, anatomical pathologists, geneticists, molecular biologists, and a variety of medical doctors will lead the students through intriguing lectures and problem based learning scenarios. Students will be exposed to elements of forensic pathology, gross anatomy, human genetics, cancer, viruses, gene therapy, infectious diseases, epidemiology, immunology, and ethics. Students will also conduct experiments which are commonly performed in forensic laboratories, such as isolating DNA. The goal of this class is to develop skills of observation, interpretation, and integration needed to analyze human disease, and at the end of the session students should have an awareness such that they can determine the most likely diagnosis and explain the pathogenesis of the disease when provided with the clinical history, anatomical lesions, and laboratory data of a patient. The class will culminate with a series of “CSI-FACT OR FICTION” competitions, wherein the students will determine if what happens on CSI is indeed scientifically possible.

That's the description of my course ^.^' So it really IS Hand's On...or rather, Hands IN biggrin lol
Just thought I'd put up the actual description of it rather than my ramblings for anyone who cared to know a bit more.
