OH GOD NOT ANOTHER MUSIC THREAD!?!

No wait, here me out.

I love psytrance and often play it in my classroom BUT every album I have has some section where I need to run over and skip over an 'inappropriate for a teacher to be playing' sample. Either they're drugs or sex.

Anybody know where I can download some psytrance that doesn't have a 2 second break where the chorus is "EVERYBODY HAVE SEX AND DO DRUGS NOW!"?

biggrin

Well, shall we go?
Yes, let's go.

Talamasca.. Psydrop.. Most of Sphongle.. Most russian production like Transdriver and stuff.. Maybe Lucy in Space with Diamonds..: ) Most producers don't have passages like that in tracks.. You have to have some really weird albums there..: )

Smile.. It confuses people..:)

Actually, it's one of those things that you kind of forget if you're not looking for it. I wouldn't be surprised if you listened to one of your favorite albums the next time and went "Ohmygod, he's totally right!"

One of the breaks in "Now that's what I call psytrance" is literally "If you ever have the opportunity to try marijuana... DO IT!" So I can't really go playing that with students around. It also has some references to making drugs.

I can't really justify a 3 minute chorus of "Extasy... extasy..."

And another CD I have, (Street Parade 2002, certainly not psytrance) literally breaks into a chorus of straight out of a porno over and over again. It's like 4 seconds out of the whole album but enough to traumatize a class.

Every psytrance album I have has some section that makes me cringe. Which is silly. Cuz it's usually just a few seconds that ruin the album from G rating.

Well, shall we go?
Yes, let's go.

Dunno.. I'm pretty sure I haven't heard anything on Talamasca trax.. Or play Hilight tribe.. They sure have no sex or drugs reference there.. It would be fun if you played the 1200 mics - 1200 micrograms album..: )

Smile.. It confuses people..:)

Ah so what i believe British cinema has as a U (for Universal) rating. Not, as i was thinking, G for guidance - as per several other countries I visited on my travels - (which is why i was slightly baffled. It don't take much to baffle a fraggle though, do it?)

Thank you Mr YC. It is oh so much clearer now.

Might I suggest you try the musical stylings of SUN Project, or perhaps Zen Terrorists?

Mr Bender would be a good person to consult on this matter.

yeah psy doesn't typically have vocals (G rated or ortherwise) and of what passages i have been exposed to, they have an uplifting message.

i like to distinguish psy by their use at parties: full-on night music (specially from south africa: Shift, Damage) morning music (Protoculture) Slow midday psy-gressive (australia's own Sensient, Sun Control Species) seksi seksi psy-dub (Ott) and just plain weird (Haltya, Kluster)

Right now, i am really into a beautiful world music/ambient collaboration between Shakti and his girlfriend, it's a group called 'Angel Tears' and i urge you NYC and everyone else reading this to play any of their four albums.

it's magical.

I thought while there's a psytrance thread around I'll ask this.

Does anyone know any psytrance music that doesn't go for 7-9 minutes or longer? Psytrance that goes for 3 minutes max?

Better. I play the videos from Launch (Yahoo). This way they're edited. Sometimes, if the video is a bit raunchy I minimize the screen so it just plays the censored words.

Yup.

It's kinda funny. There are a sizable portion of my kids that don't like techno or hip hop. They're all about the Grateful Dead and Phish and all that stoner rock that I can't stand. It's a pretty funny role reversal. biggrin

www.dnbradio.com

my mates have a regular set on there smile

thursday nights, 8:00-9:30pm (gmt)

lots of their music free to d/l at www.ukbassline.co.uk

and while i'm plugging they also run a night called 'informal' at bar el paso in old street, london on the first thursday of every month.

somehow, they have created a night that is actually a viable alternative to the dub-plate-laden beast that is 'movement' - mampi swift is playing informal tomorrow night biggrin
