Hi ya'll

Just making myself comfy and need to get back in2 the whole swing of things. No pun intended. No really!

I used to frequent bullitin boards on a regular basis many years ago. Now I need to find my feet again. Ehgads! where did I hide my avatar now. I know its somewhere on my pewter!

Lets c now, where to begin.

I'm from South Africa. I came across poi for the first time when I went to a Nite Club in Johannesburg.
A girl was doing some really interesting stuff with a bean bag attatched to a length of chain. I was mesmersized. she was standing outside doing these really amazing tricks. I went across to her and watched closely and eventually struck up the courage to ask if I could have a go.
She was so patient with me and taught me the real basic stuff. I failed dismally at the expense of her time.
This was not the end however. I made a decision that night that rocked my world baby!

I eventually found out that this performance that girl put on was called poi.

I found out where to get the poi kits from and a week later I had purchased myself what I understand to be some kind of beginners kits for next to nothing at a Jo'burg flea market.

The guy there told me to go to this here fine website. I did not come here immediately tho, only a week later after purchasing my kit.

By myself a learnt to do what I later found out to be called the 2 beat chase. Hope I got that rite, 1 beat for each poi on 1 or either side!?!?!

Then I taught myself some kind of chase that happens in front of me and overhead, not sure what to call it as I've not seen it anywhere on this site yet. This, I was told when I was showing my friend, looked like a circle with the poi at a 180 degree split. Hope that made some sense to someone here.

I eventually got to the lessons that are on offer here and quickly learnt the 4 beat chase. Rest of the stuff so far looks too foreign for me still, but hopefully I'll get there one day with the perseverence I exuded when I first started on my ace.

When I first mentioned that I was going through with all of this poi stuff to my S.O. it was kind of laughed off and not thought of much after that, clearly not thinking that I'd actually follow through with whole thing, something that I'm famous for apparently. Well....

All of this started merely 4 weeks ago and certain people have eaten their words, OFTEN.

Thanks to the peeps here at HOP, You guys have changed my life.
I think I may have found my 2nd, 2ND home! ubblove

hey dude, and welcome to HoP biggrin

would you like some pizza? tongue

We are the music makers, We are the dreamers of dreams,
Wandering by lone sea-breakers, And sitting by desolate streams;
World-losers and world-forsakers, On whom the pale moon gleams;
We are the movers and shakers of the world for ever, it seems.

Kahooli
The God of Vengeance, his priests take it upon themselves to avenge wrongdoings; at their most benevolent, they point out culprits to the King's Men, but when they are at their most malevolent, they seize weapons and go off in search of the unlucky wrongdoer, and none dare stand in their way. Kahooli is of Good alignment and is commonly known as The Howler After Fugitives and The Unraveller of Mysteries of Truth.

Is this true?! biggrin

i think he meant other boards, because he said: "used to frequent bullitin boards on a regular basis many years ago" which says to me that he went to boards other than this one. i don't think this board was around "many" years ago, but that's just based on how you define the word many.

Spark is rite. I used to frequent the Common Room BB Fanfic writing and anything to do with fantacy fic reading writing and gaming and mostly to do with the world of Midkemia created by Ray Feist. that was close to around 4 years already since I did anything there. Much traveling this ine does nowadays. Have to spread the word of vengence somehow! weavesmiley love this smiley btw

Which leads to another yes. Kahooli is the God of vegence in the realm of Midkemia.

Green is always an intellence colour bounce btw. (nice 2 c that i've not lost my knowledge of UBB code. Phew! ubbidea)

Ta for the welcome ya'll.
