Anyone else see the poi duo on tonight? I don't think it was a rerun. Every time I watch the show they have someone on there with fire.

Its on the FOX network (surprise) in the states. I doubt its on anywhere else. Its a takeoff on the classic gong show. Its on at 8 Pacific time for anyone that wants to watch a random bunch of entertainers.

A bunch of the London people were on Channel 4 yesterday apparently because they finally showed the footage from my house party!!

Apparently they used me on there!!

so i should do the audition first and then send in a tape right? well, now some input. is there anything in particular people here would like to see me do? anything at all? i would love to get some ideas from my lovely friends at HoP. and then maybe i can put them all together and we will see what i come up with. what i have to work with is me doign poi my roomate doing staff. and some fire breathing.

pele, i have not commented on your illness much. i am profoundly happy to see that you are okay and back in action. keep up those high hopeful spirits and nothing can get you down. yu are an extraordinary woman...

hmmm....anyone doing staff needs burnoffs and throws, those are two thinsg that havn't been done yet taht i've seen. you need to do the real weave if only for two seconds cause it looks nice and no one's done that either.

i don't have any actual advice, sadly, i just want you to do a really good job adn look cool

i'm so not helpful.

btw ray, "break a leg" is more appropriate for performers, so

Just do the weave really fast

Seriously, you only have 30 seconds, go for the crowd pleasers instead of the technical tricks that are impressive to fellow spinners but not as impressive to the common slack jawed yokel. I watched a guy sunday who's whole burn was weave variations, not just fwd. + rev. but he had a whole flow that brought his weave going sideways and this way and that, it looked so much better than the girl doing tons of tech moves.

The crowd also really seems to enjoy some well placed acrobatics. They went nuts when the three martial arts guys were going through a routine of arial kicks, so if you can throw in some arials I am shure that it would greatly improve your chances.

*topic bump*

I love 30sec to Fame. Well, I DID.
It seems that the performers who are really talented get booed, terminated, or just don't get far. I feel as if the audience has no idea what real talent is.

Sure I like to see a talented boy/girl-band perform, but when matched against something that takes a lifetime to learn; like acrobatics, great fire routine, or even just something slightly obscure...it's always the very VERY mainstream that gets the nod.

I like the show, and excuse my rant,
but I can understand why some would get discouraged by it.
I just wish the common man could appreciate real talent, and real art.

*sigh*
*grumble grumble*
I think everyone knows what I'm getting at.

While I'm on the stinkin' topic.....

Why do the networks feel that removing anything even remotely though provoking is the proper thing to do????!!!!

For instance - This season FOX removed: Greg the Bunny, Titus, and Family Guy (which is way edgier than the (god bless them) Simpsons).

I understand that if it offends ANY American it must be removed from view, otherwise the sponsers will pull their dollars......and I know that TV is big business...so......

I do not get to watch my favorites. *insert whine here*

*yet another sigh*

Erm, Greg the bunny is still on on sundays. But I do miss the Family Guy. It was just as twisted as South Park but much less obvious. What I'm really pissed about is the removal of That 80's Show. I loved that show

Sadly the networks might just be screwing with us. Often they will air shows for a short period of time to see if people will watch them. The networks will then pull them off, and air a bunch of crappy shows in their place. In doing so they create a sort of insurance policy so that they have something to cover their asses with if they can't sell to the lowest possible denominator. It's sad really.

Malcolm, have to agree with the g-string and the public’s inability to appreciate great skills. I’ve also noticed that a lot of circus (and probably street) performers recognise this, and really make a point of letting the audience know when they have done a good trick. Unfortunately, they sometimes overdo it a bit, and expect applause for every trick, which gets boring and takes away the impact from the great tricks.

Then there is this old line that goes something like “no one has ever gone broke for underestimating the public’s taste”

If we as members of the human race practice meditation, we can transcend our fear, despair, and forgetfulness. Meditation is not an escape. It is the courage to look at reality with mindfulness and concentration. Thich Nhat Hanh

Seems like 30 secs to fame is a rigged show. How else could you justify that elderly lady that 'played' a six pack of bottles winning 25K?

I remember when the contortionist won (the one that squeezed into a box). I know for sure the bottle blowin'melody maker was a finalist, but I think that granny won it all (different shows maybe). Even if she only made it to the final 3, I still smell a conspiracy.
