To jump straight to the important part me and my friends were threatened with a knife last night.

You may ask what act of stupidity/provoction we displayed to deserve what i view as a pretty serious and scary experience, the answer being we thought we could spin in our local park.

Turns out this is a pretty big deal to the local "crew" as they called themselves. I didn't even know there was a local crew till they we so close.

I just dont get it how can stupid groups of ideotic teenagers see fit to terroris others for no reason.

I just want to express myself via the means of fire with my friends in a public space is this so wrong?

Have any other HoPpers crossed pass with such crew/gangs in there general day to day spinning confused

By the way we all came away unnerved but unharmed, most likly because we has staffs with flames on the end. Long live fire!

Eeeep - tell the police! If they've threatened you with a knife, they can probably be stop-searched and then done for carrying a weapon, chances are they'll be well known to the local coppers who'll be keen for a reason to lock 'em up.

Grrrrr for chavz - we get a few at our local meets, but we have safety in numbers there

I agree - they definitely need to be reported to the police. You got away lightly, probably because they realised that a fire-wielding angry person can do a lot more harm to them than they can to you once the knife's not in their hands any more...

People like that need sorting out before they pick on someone who's not going to be so lucky.

Folks like that make me seethe!

I know that we should but my friends are to keen, you see theyve done worse to other people that weve heard of, friend of a friends style and got away with it. Even so they could only charge the guy doing all the talking which leaves a good 20 or so of there gang left alone. I now this sounds shitty and defeatist but its real life and in real life everythings not as simple as go the the authorities.

Nuthin more dangerous than a frog with a flick knife.

I was mobbed by five guys on the street one night. Quiet scary, damn fools were trying to grab the staff of me WHILE IT WAS SPINNING!!!!!

I never stopped spinning though. They were a nasty bunch. Had to stop for a break after they left.

They could've been tripping... but then, does anyone do that kindof thing without being f*ckd up?

(It's not an excuse for any type of behaviour, but they probably need help, or at least a wake-up call, so call the cops biggrin )

What did they say? 'This is our park, get out?!'

Jeez, people are so angry these days.

OK I have to say that yes the people you met need to be taught some lessons but as for the title 'What is wrong with the youth of today?' I'd have to say in general not very much. Look at all the 'youth of to day' on here. They almost all strike me as happy, friendly, well adjusted people. Just because there are some arseholes out there don't tar all of them with the same brush. I would hold up individuals as examples to prove there was not much wrong with the youth of today but I think it would make them blush too much so I'll spare them that.

a camera (or better, a videocamera) is a very handy thing to have at times like these...
of course it does just give them another thing to try and steal.

i guess sometimes sh!t things happen to good people.
and most of the time its sh!t people that do those things.

I'm not sure. I don't reckon the people on this forum are representative of the rest of society - certainly not where I live anyways.

And I do believe people (not just young people) are getting more disrespectful of each other. As society progresses over the years we tend to have things easier, we don't have to work so hard and the emphasis is on immediacy - getting what you want here and now. People don't have to try so hard to get what they want, thanks to the availability of loans and borrowing.

It creates a culture where people believe they can take whatever they want, at the expense of anyone else.

Heading off topic, but what amazes me is the people on programmes like "Bank of Mum and Dad" who can't live without half a dozen credit cards because once they've maxed out one of them, they go and apply for another one. They don't ever seem to stop and think that at some point they've got to pay it back.

Exactly...
There are always exceptions to the rule - if something is vital (and by vital, I mean lifechanging - a new pair of shoes are not vital unless you have literally no shoes) - but the whole ethos of society is changing due to the shift in consumerism, and the respect for people and property that comes from working for what you have is being lost.

Anyway, I've been mugged, twice, once in west norward, and once in brockwell park, which is 2 mins from my house in london. Nothing to do with poi, but it really really really pisses me off when it happens. I'm 15. I have nothing of value, Why me?

And the next thing that pisses me off, is when people say it is society that made them like it. Argggggggggghhhhhhhhhh! Reality check please!
