I just got hired for this burlesque show that is coming up in November 2004 and they want me to do poi in the show and I am stressing my hair. Is there any nonflamable hair products that anyone can recomend? I am planning to put my hair back some how. Problem is the theme of the show is 1940's vaudville. So I can't just wrap it up in a head band.
Any suggestions?
(Besides shaving my head)

ive looked too! the only stuff ive been able to find is heat resistant stuff. superdrug do an industrial strength one, and thats the best i can come up with! sorry! good luck! x

what about a cotton bandanna? i think they had those back then. or maybe a hat of some sort. females and hats were a very enforced thing back then, i think. maybe one of those ones that look basically like a cylinder? you could just stuff your hair into it?

If you're going to use hair products, I'd suggest that you first find a couple that work well with your hair, and then test them for flamability.
Spitfire and I have spun with our hair twisted into spikes, using wax and gel, then tipped with washable blue hair dye. Then the whole lot was sprayed with glitter spray.
We tested all the stuff first, to see if any would burn especially easily. They were all fine, and the wax actually served to insulate the material it was tested on. It took quite a lot for that to start smoldering.
I hope you find something that works, and good luck with the show.
