Greethings HoPpers! Let me introduce myself:
Name: teknomad aka aXxe aka Jasmin
D.O.B: xx/12/80
Age at which I realised I wasn't a genius: 17
Location: currently Auckland, NZ, but the nick ain't for nothing... Previously Sydney, Munich, Tuzla
Occupation: studying Massage ATM, used to be a computers/UNIX geek back when living in the Prison of the Mind
Piercings: 1 nipple (3/4 ring), none planned
Tats: 1 so far - left scapula, hieroglyphs. 1 more planned but haven't found right artist/model yet
Hobbies: rock climbing, motorbikes, massage, anime, reading, hopefully twirlin ^_^
Religion: Sceptic/Agnostic. My divinity disregards others' mysticism
Can't remember first time I saw poi - musta been at some rave in Oz... Since then met a few very inspiring people who did circus craft (thanks Auntie A!). Went & bought a wooden stick from the hardware store the other week, tried to do some twirling but all i came up with were finger-moves, discovered HoP about a week ago, tried learning all the moves from the tutorial, twirled for ~4 hours, and totally atomised my right thumb abductors - Couldn't use hand for 5 days!!! So i'm back at it now at a slower pace... Would like to meet other twirly & similar people in Auckland (need a climbing partner ATM too). Today it's raining horribly, nothing to do but stay home, surf & twirl (yay for high ceilings!). So, who's everyone?

You'll find heaps of people here who can help you with your twirling, including, i believe, some in Auckland. Have you checked out the gathering threads to see if there is anything near you??

I started staff with a wooden stick too. But take it easy, the fingers are a very delicate instrument.
There's people in Aukland. In fact if I remember correctly Charles is from there. Do a search in meet others and you should come up with a list.

I'm leaving my IT job next month to go travelling and I'm hoping never to return to such
again either cause it's doing my head in.

I'm in auckland and seriously need some encouragement to practice staff again...I had a doorfir gig at AUT and while it went well, my muscles are still telling me I should be practicing more...
You can even borrow a copy of the Art of Staff as long as you promise to help me practioce more... ;-)
You are welcome to one of my older firestaffs too if you like...let me know if you'd like to get in touch...
