I have been a frequent visitor to Home of Poi for about 6 months now, but it was not until I got a 10-hour-a-day office job, that I found the time to post a message here!
I'm based in Darwin, (and am totally enjoying a "winter" of perfect warm, sunny weather...poor me!) and I love to twirl poi & staffs.
Anyway, when I got to Darwin six months ago I had a hard time finding fellow twirling buddies...I had a dream of starting a fire event where everyone could come learn from each other and have a good time. So I found a few people, got them excited and we started meeting at the Esplanade every week.
Now it's fast becoming a Darwin institution, with travellers, muscians, twirlers and a big bunch of locals who love to sit around in true Darwin style and drink beer in the park on a Sunday night.
It's awesome, in 2 months it went from me and my 5 friends, to at least 60 people every week. And everytime I go I meet new twirlers with mad moves who've heard along the grapevine about fire jam.
Just wanted to say if you live somewhere where you think no one else twirls, or you haven't met anyone, it's not that hard to get out there and spread the word, people start coming out of the cracks that you never even knew existed. Start something yourself, if no one else twirls, TEACH THEM!
If you are in Darwin, come down to the Esplanade on Sunday nights, 8pm onwards and meet some new people and be inspired! Look for me, I'm always there!
Look forward to getting to know some great people on this discussion board, drop me a line, I'm always online! (Hey that rhymed...in a kind of lame way...)

Congrats on the group of twirlers you have going there.
And I know what you mean about not knowing people who twirl until you start... even people who are mega keen to learn, it's great.

I was always scared with my mother's obsession with the good scissors. It made me wonder if there were evil scissors lurking in the house somewhere.
