Typically, I have never been an early riser. But until I can get back into my bedroom (this sunday yay!) I have to sleep in the living room where the sun shines on my face as soon as it peaks over the horizon in the morning. The birds start twittering at about 4:30, and it is really something. I tried to fight it for days and due to a lack of time to practice, today I finally gave up. I got up at 5:30, did some a.m. puttering and then went out to practice (with comet poi) for an hour before my son awoke and I had to really get ready for our day.
I loved it! It was still. Other than the birds the world was quiet. There was the silvery dew on the grass that gave the world this earthy smell. The sun was not hot nor harsh and the air had the slightest breeze that was refreshing and welcomed. It was as if the day had embraced me before it had even began.
And in the ethereal hue of morning the comet colors seemed to glow. The tails seemed to snap a little crisper and louder. The poi seemed as if it were floating on air, not cutting thought it. It was very serene and very nice, and I think I may have a new practice time.
It just means I have to get to bed sometime before 2 a.m.!

What is your favorite time of day to spin and why?

Twilight - cos the sky's purty when the sun is setting - it's dark enuff to give justice to fire but light enough to see faces, forms in the twirling. I'd say the same of sunrise but honestly i'm too much of a slob to enjoy the mornings!!

I get up at 0300 (3 am) to go to work!

I think that it is more eary than anything else.

But then again I am still pretty much asleep untill I get to the armory. Then when I have to start messing with pin codes counting weapons and then I have to be awake cuz a wrong number on my pin and the cops show up guns drawn! Getting shot would ruin my day!

I remember once when i went camping with some friends at australias south coast..
On the first night, i didnt sleep one wink. i think this is because there were 4 of us in a 2 person tent and i was unpleasantly overcome by clostrophobia..
Anway, as 5am crept up on me i saw shadows of the trees start to form and heard the birds wake, and decided to join them. I got a rug and a book and lay on the beach. It was so incredible! there were no footprints made by man in the sand, no wind blowing it in my face, the sun was gentle, the air was crisp. Right then i couldnt have asked for anything more. (excpet maybe my camera...)
i have to say, dawn is easily my favorite time of the day. Maybe its because i hardly ever see it? Followed closely by 4am, because of the above reasons but its dark...

When I was learning Tai chi and Chi Kung my sensei used to mention frequently that between five and seven in the morning and five and seven in the evening is the best time of the day to do energy cultivation and like meditations, which, after all, is what poi is for many of us.

I think it stems from some bhuddist philosophy about the nature of the sun and how it affects the earth. But it could just be that it has to with the time of day that you are gearing up to go on about your buisness, and the time of night that you begin winding down from your day.

I also find that in the morning I am more phisicly creative as I am waking up (I find it easier to come up with new staff combos and such), and at night when I am about to fall asleep I am more mentally creative (I seem to write better music and poetry right before I pass out cold)

Some people stay on the net all night posting on obscure sites. Like this one guy I heard about. Who went to this site called HOP all the time and posted all of these inane ramblings. And whenever he stopped posting for more than 3 days everyone missed him and started to panic. Imagine that.

And yet he spends 3 or 4 hours everyday spinning when it's sunny. Mid afternoon would be his favourite time to spin. In the sunshine. Or twilight in the rain. Whoever he is. This guy I heard about.

I have to get up at about 6.45am for school, but sometimes I awake an hour or so earlier and go out and spin in the bright morning sunshine. I sleep with the curtains open so that the sunshine wakes me up too. It really puts a smile on my face for the day ahead.

But recently, I've been sleeping in a lot and spinning in the afternoons. That's nice too. I suppose that may have something to do with this nocturnal guy who keeps talking to me on the phone in the middle of the night..... (not that I'm complaining mind )

If he phones you up any earlier then your mother calls you for dinner.

Anyhoo, his younger brother is usually tying up the phone, sorting out business deals with strange households (with bizarre bloodlines) for a good few hours every night of late......

I love my lie-ins. No matter how early I get to sleep, if I wake up early it takes me hours to wake up. Now, bizarre habit revealing time here, as a helpful hint to Pele. I need pitch black to sleep in, otherwise I wake up with a headache. So as the sun comes up I drag a lovely soft black t-shirt across my eyes, and that's it, I'm out like a light. Stop laughing and give it a try! I've converted exs to this and they're hooked as well.

I usually come truly awake about 9ish, and in summer this coincides with sunset or just after and this is my favorite time. The colours in the sky bathing everything in a soft light. It's peaceful yet full of energy for the night to come. That's a great time to spin.

I've also had some amazing dawns, walking and spinning through city streets or dancing across fields. The same light and that energy of a new day. But these dawns are usually experienced after an all nighter so once the dawn is over I'm asleep till sunset.

I'm trying to get into the habit of having at least a half hour spin when I get home from work, usually at about 6ish.
I find it's not the best time for a spin, with all the traffic noise, but it definately helps me relax from everything that's happened at work.

I'm really looking forward to my holiday when I can have a spin on the beach at dawn. This is assuming I get up early enough, given my knack for sleeping in, it'll probably be at sunset .

But there's no sense crying over every mistake. You just keep on trying till you run out of cake.

The beach at sunrise can be beautiful, esp on one of those cloudy days where the sun breaks through in columns of light. But the sand is always painfully cold on your feet, like being barefoot in snow. (I luv it then cos I am not a daytime hot beach weather person)

I used to be able to wake up early, for some reason I can't any more. But I have noticed a lot more black tshirts in my room...

What i'd love would be to stand on the roof of my house and spin at sunrise, you know all katare kid style....

but starting work at 6:30am and getting home from college at about 8pm doesn't leave much time for relaxing sadly....

I usually spin in my claustrophobic backyard for an hour after coming home, in the dark, then collapse into bed. Nothing helps you sleep better than exhaustion

Camping is good.

Friends and i camp in some lovely places... and you know what it's like camping... you just can't sleep once the birds get up...

So a place like Anna Bay (north of Sydney), where there are sand dunes and beach... is absolutely awesome at sunrise...

But i must also show my support for a midnight burn, esp when the moon is HUGE and full. that is just magic.

coz im a lazy assed student that spends more time spinning than studying, i tend to spin from 10am till 12 then have lunch, watch some kind of subnormal chat show (or powerpuffgirls) then spin from 2-4. Then i quit it till 11ish (actually do some studying) then we normally lite up...

i do this twice a week, rest of the time i just do the day spinning...
