Simple math isn't it.get scared the fisrt time -> 1/2 lifeAnd again -> 1/4 lifeIn theory you'll never die. Same is if you walk towards something but cover half the distance you travelled each time. The distance from the object will halve each time but you'll never get there... Freaky but true.

There seems to be some misunderstanding of Zeno's paradox here. So for completeness, here is the problem, and the solution:"A man standing in a room cannot walk to the wall. In order to do so, he would first have to go half of the difference, then half the remaining distance, then half again of what still remains. This process can always be continued and can never be ended."Solution: The paradox assumes a fallacious concept: That the sum of an infinite series must be infinity. In fact, the distance to the wall will be the limit of the sum of the infinite series in question. Since each new expression added to the series will be progressively smaller than the number before it, the new expressions will soon become miniscule, and the resulting sum will quickly approach some limiting value. Consider the progression: (After half of the distance,)s1 = 0.5 ->(After half the remaining distance,)s2 = 0.5 + 0.25 = 0.75 -> (After half the remaining distance,)s3 = 0.5 + 0.25 + 0.125 = 0.875 -> (After half the remaining distance,)s4 = 0.0.9375 -> (After half the remaining distance,)s5 = 0.96875 -> (After half the remaining distance,)s6 = 0.984375 -> (After half the remaining distance,)s7 = 0.9921875 -> (After half the remaining distance,)s10 = 0.9990234 ->(After half the remaining distance,) s16 = 0.99998474;Or, if it helps you to think of it this way, think of actually dividing the distance to the wall in half each time. After only 4 such divisions, you'll basically be almost all of the way there, and each time you divide it in half again afterwards you will be making the subdivisions exponentially smaller. Hope that clarifies it smile (Or Beats the issue to a bloody pulp, if you prefer that wording :P)------------------"Dance is your pulse, your heartbeat, your breathing. It's the rhythm of your life. It's the expression in time and movement, in happiness, joy, sadness and envy." ~Jaques D'ambroise

In how much of a time period? Technically speaking, if you are scared bad enough for it to be half to death, you would probably remain pretty shaken up for a while. So if you got scared half to death twice within, say, 10 minutes of each other, your body would still be pumping so much adrenaline and endorphins that it probably wouldn't phase you nearly as much the second time. More like adding twigs to a fire. During the first few second of an instance like this, your body uses it's instincts to protect itself, and you do basically one of two things. You panic/lose control/run/curl up/etc., or you react. (Will anyone with martial arts trainig back me up on this?) And if you are scared over and over again, you probably won't take time to evaluate the situation and chose a different reaction. If you are faint of heart, you'll probably end up cleaning out your shorts. If you are a little more tolerant, you walk away with a wicked rush. It's usually called extreme sports. tongue

See, this is a perfect example of why you should never do anything half way. Yes, if you walk half way to the wall, then half that distance then half of that, and so on, and so on you get caught up in some weird paradox. But if you just walk all the way to the wall in one go, well, then you're there.Not to mention the fact that to keep walking half the distance to the wall your brain would need a much more acurate sense of space and distance than it has to mesure such minute lengths.And if someone did get scared half to death, say 1,000 times (half to death then half of half to death ext.) you would be so close to dead that one of your relatives would probobly just pull the plug on you anyway. smile------------------If you love something, set it on fire.

Technically speaking, Maths, should be the correct term. Maths, being the study of Mathematics, therefore the abbreviated version should be read with an s on the end.As for what your body does......whenever you feel threatened or scared or anything like that, your body undergoes a response known as the Fight/Flight response. You sympathetic nervous system takes over, allowing your heart rate to speed up, your digestion to stop (temporarily), your adrenal gland to release that most holy of drugs....adrenaline into the blood stream etc. When this happens your body is primed to do either of two things, turn and run away like the coward i am, in order to save my life and allow myself to pass my genetic code on. The option as you have probably guessed by now is the fight option. In this instance you use all that adrenaline and energy to stick around and fight off would be attackers and make them rue the day they ever took on the immense form of your biceps.So yes, i think that if you were scared twice right after one another you probably wouldn't be as affected by the second scarring as the first has already allowed your body to adapt to the increase in stress. *deep breath*Of course if the second scarring doesn't affect you as much as the first then obviously you havent been scared half to death twice. You have been scared half to death....and a little bit. Therefore this whole passage has nothing to do with the topic........yay me. winkcheersApB

hmm... wouldnt you actually be dead? if half of you is dead (half to death) chances are that one of the now dead parts of your body are nessecary for living... Although thats the literal meaning of being scared half to death.

Actually Nightrunner, the sum of infinite values is infinite. The distance to the wall is a limit, but it is an asymptotic limit. The person will always get closer, and yet never truly reach it.

Infinite values are fun.

Did you know that 0.99999 with an infinite number of 9's is equal to 1?

Consider:
code:
x = 0.9999999...
therefore:
10x = 9.9999999...

since,
10x - x = 9x
then:
9.9999999... - 0.9999999...= 9x = 9.00
Hence:
1 = x = 0.9999999...

Ohhhh goody maths problems

Consider

1 divdided by 9 = 0.111111111
2 divdided by 9 = 0.222222222
3 divdided by 9 = 0.333333333
4 divdided by 9 = 0.444444444
5 divdided by 9 = 0.555555555
6 divdided by 9 = 0.666666666
7 divdided by 9 = 0.777777777
8 divdided by 9 = 0.888888888

therefore why the hell doesn't 9 divided by nine equal .9999999

I find it interesting how so many people actually responded to this thread while already knowing how completely unimportant it was to begin with. Adding my two cents to the original question would be much more than it is worth. Why worry about being scared half to death when you are already wasting half your life pondering the possibility of an impossibility???

Thank you... gives another hug back... in that case I been thinking????

( you asked for it)

In starwars, when they jump to light speed, their at he other end of the galaxy, in only a few seconds... right???

however the distance from earth to the sun would only be a faction of that distance... right???

and it takes the light from the sun around eight and a half minute to reach here... right???

so how can they be at the other end of the galaxy so fast???

I can't hear you... I have a banana in my ear.
