Well, as my original intro was lost, I guess I get the chance to redo my room!!! Feel free to come on in, just PLEASE take your shoes off at the door! Thank you. smile

Well here's me (again)... biggrin

*NAME- Amanda

*SEX- female

*AGE- 23

*LOCATION- Hmmm... a tricky one! Currently in Durham. I spend my summers in France (miles from civilization), and spring and autumn in Wales (do sheep count as civilization? If so, then a thriving community!) ubblol

*FAV. TOYS- at the moment my fire poi, but also my juggling balls, diabolo, my new staff, guitar, mountain bike, and of course my beloved kayak!...too many more to mention!

*TWIRLING SINCE- learned bits of stuff since 2000, but only really got into it this year. I was on crutches for 3wks, after dislocating my knee (ow!), so I spent all the time learning new poi stuff (every cloud has a silver lining eh?).

*OCCUPATION- Outdoor Activity Instructor/ river guide

*HOBBIES- naturally my poi and stuff, but also do lots of kayaking, canoeing, climbing, mountain biking, snowboarding, and bits of other sports.

*FAV. PLACE- Specific favourite one is sat on the edge of the cliff, overlooking the gorge where I work in France, with nothing around for miles apart from the wild boar, and watching either the sunset in the distance, or one of the impressive lightning storms we have.

I also love anywhere where I can sit on a mountain or beside a river, hearing nothing but the noises of nature. A BIG reminder of the beauty of it all... ubblove

Anyway, thats pretty much me in a nutshell! Feel free to come and chill in my room- its a great place for relaxing and being at one with nature! (and who said i was a hippie?! peace ). On the plus side, tea and cakes are supplied for free!!! And if i'm feeling generous i may even let Narr in with her weird marmite/chocolate spread mix! euch!

Catch you all soon, wave

Mand.

It used to seem to me that my life ran on too fast, and i had to take it slowly just to make the good parts last. But when you're born to run its so hard to just slow down.

Aha! Finally I've found my intro thread!

I disappear for 2 weeks to play on the playa, and when I get back everythings changed.
I'm not sure I like it. Everything seems more complicated and difficult to find, my list of favourite threads has disappeared, and... well, it's going to take a while to get used to.

I have several large jars of the stuff. I actually like it... a little. And don't tell anyone I admitted to it.

Grrrrrr
Last night something that hasn't happened in a long time really P!$$&d me off.

We're having an unnaturally hot end to our summer, so last night 3 of us went to the park to hoop and spin and juggle in the evening sunshine. We were surrounded by trees of the most beautiful autumn colours, and had a great night.

Afterwards, Kim and I had to make a trip to the grocery store and get our shopping done. We were walking down one of the isles to get the last of our things, and noticed a guy walking towards us... black eye, and a look of hatred and anger on his face that I've never seen on a person before.

I was about to wait till we'd passed him, and then make some comment to Kim about him looking like he'd just escaped from the psych ward. I didn't know at that point that all the anger and hatred was directed at us.
He started yelling... hmmmm, how can I put it since this is a PG board?... 'derogatory comments about lesbians' at us and then walked off.

We ignored him and went to pay for our things, but were a little nervous about going out to our car. This store isn't in the best area of town, and although the car park is open, it's dark. In the end we went to talk to the security guys, and asked them to walk us out to our car. They hung around and waited until we'd driven out of the carpark.

I haven't experienced anything like this in a long time, and I didn't think Calgary would really be the place it would happen. Most people here seem to be fairly open minded, and it's quite an eclectic city.
I'm annoyed that I felt scared and vulnerable by such a small minded little guy. frown

Wow, I'm pretty new to the boards, but let me say, I'm sorry to hear that.

I know how that feels, and I hope for your sake, that nothing worse than that ever happens to you.

Makes me sad to know that in 2008 people still haven't learned to at least.... respect others. You don't have to like it, but at least respect that it's not your life and they can do what they want.

Also, on a bit.... dumber note, I'm surprised to hear a guy was anti-lesbians.... Most of my straight friends are just perverts, or course I think I have a good set of open minded friends.

*shrug* Be cool.

Mand, don't let it get to you - he's just a small minded person that you shouldn't concern yourself with. As long as you are carefull to keep yourself physically safe you should just forget about people like him.

You didn't say so I was wondering how he worked out you were gay and what triggered the extreme anger, but hey, it doesn't matter - forget him and pay attention to the positive things in your life.

Thanks guys hug

George, I don't really know how he figured out we were gay, other than being perceptive. If you imagine your 'stereotypical lesbian' I don't really look it. Kim is closer to that look though- short spiky hair (now blonde), and getting quite ripped from going to the gym.
We did absolutely nothing to trigger that anger other than being there.

Oh well, as you say, we do just try and forget small minded dumbasses like him.
We're also always careful to keep ourselves safe. Not so much to do with being gay, but living downtown in a city where crime rates and shootings are soaring through the roof at the moment.

And to top it all off we try and immerse ourselves in the happy shiney huggy community of poi spinners, hoopers, and burners. grin

Yup, that's pretty much life with the crew up here... hot tubs, wine, fire, dancing, and privacy from the outside world. grin

Yikes!
When did halloween get to be just 4 days away??!! eek

I've still got so much leather work and airbrushing to do for my costume, and so much sewing machine work to do for both mine and Kim's costume.
I really shouldn't do stuff like this at the same time as starting a new job!
