Malcolm, just wondering, how many copies of COL3 were sold last year?

And had an idea, maybe after COL5, you could do "the best of COL 1-5" video.

Now to the matter that is driving me nuts....who did the song for FIRE SISTERS segment? The Flamenco sounding song. I am aboslutely in love with that song! I simply must get a copy of it to perform a dance routine to! There are two other songs I loved, the next one during the Fire Sisters and then one later.

Pele, hi it's linda (the shorter fire sister ) the music for the video came from my brother's band Kan'Nal (he plays guitar). Their CD is available on their website, www.kannal.org. However, if you're ever coming up to toronto (Harvest Festival?), i could probably sell you one cheaper. Alot of the other music was provided by our very talented Paddy, who alas has abandoned us for the school year , but better visit often!

I am assuming that you are the Pele that Davey (fiery flow) said was going to teach belly dancing at the om festival. Lindsay and I were really looking forward to that and meeting you.

I just got the video 5 minutes ago! Super excited to watch it!!!!

just checked it out real quick. Malcolm it's amazing, beautiful, wow!! I'm kinda stunned, there's soooooo much incredible stuff.
Pele the guy in the red shirt in "pois in the hood" is nick wosely (not sure of spelling), not only is he an amazing spinner, but he also wrote a good book called "e-mails from the edge" about his travels, tree-planting and burning man.
Paddy, your video looks great, as you know I'm in awe of you. Although two of your best tricks are missing (the jump and the one where you're lying on your stomach doing butterfly behind your back) It's also the slowest i've ever seen you do poi! Personally, i like it better when you do it fast, with your shirt off. Of course, I think most men should spin topless. Is this wrong?

Booo! Linda, if you got your when you did, mine must have arrived the day I left for skool...so now I have to wait for it to be mailed HERE!

Hmmm...the jump and the laying down BTB bf should be there (albiet I screwed up the bf...I had just learned it ). Malcolm mentioned to me he was going to trim the video a bit...but both of those were only about halfway through...

Eitherway, fanks for the kind words. I loved your video with Lindsay too. I hadn't see the full extent of your two-person show when I watched it, so I was absolutely stunned.

Maybe no shirt next year instead..?

Ok here's the controversial video. It's my full staff set. Didn't bother to edit out the part that got on COL4. I hope this doesn't upset too many people. I feel that since there's only a short clip of this on COL4 posting the whole video should be ok. And i think some people will enjoy seeing this and the tricks. There are many that got left out.

well, I saw col4 today... there are some things that realy stood out in my mind. That run by glitter girl... OMG shake that thang!!! GO GIRL!!!

And fire sisters.... good-ness-gray-shus!

DOWN BOY!!!

I'll have to watch it a few more times befor I can digest it. But overall I felt there was a tendancy to show the dance aspect rather than the more technical poi moves.

As a whole I think it turned out rather well.

Malcolm, expect a PM soon.... :remains mysteriouse:

Yo,

seen it about three times now, and here are the shouts...

Menik!!!! you boys rock, the backwards moving seperations expecially, I think that this is perhaps my favriot but....

Bender! where are ya? crazy crazy horse

the New-Zeeland boys were great and i liked the staff-acro from that thoer group.... yer man with the blue doubles was cool as as were the other guy doing indoor doubles throws and the fire sisters, very simple, very inventive, very sexy.

Oh and Dan, wheres the stick! nice stuff tho, but please put a top on

Overall I thought this video well rocked tha ass off the previous three, lots of diffrent styles and moves, of pretty much high quality. Went well above my expecations.

Now to practice my handcuff wraps......

Nix?, my contact staff got cut out...well except for those five seconds at the end. I did a full run with a different contact move every five seconds. .... it's ok though, I think my contact was not nearly as flowy as yours. You see, I could only do a move or short combo and then spend a few seconds (doing normal twirling) setting up the next one then do that one. And I was slow. And I couldn't flow through all the different contact moves like you do. SO, the result was that the run looked all choppy, even though it had all the "moves" they weren't strung together nicely. So, it realy is true, many times technical stuff can look choppy, and thus look like crap...

Anyways, I can see that the "judges" are going to have a difficult time with this one. it seems like there realy isn't anybody that stands out in regards to technical ability, as there are so many very good performers on there. I'm glad I don't have to choose the winner

:looks around: now, where did my shirt run off to?!?!?

me so well chuffed that alot of the entries had a clear narrative structure squeezed under 5 minutes! solid twirling is great, but humour makes it tastier too!

Just a quick one to say I finally watched the video yesterday evening with nomad and found it quite interesting.

It is true the level has gone up one level really and that is great.

More music variety which is ... yummm

I wish i could have seen more of some though ...
some sick moves, amazing technique and heart beats for me too.

Am very much inspired by Pele s element sexiness, grace and technique combined in a beautiful atmosphere. Also great work Fire sisters and your smiles are such a gift to the viewer.

Bender, Jo, Nix?, PK, Central City circus, Aiden... have seen you guys live and just cannot get enough of watching you in your own personal style (you ridiculously talented geeks ) MUCH MUCH respect

More to say but don t remember
Thank you all for sharing your passion

well i was so happy to get back from holiday and find my copy there waiting. some very impresive movers and shakers thats for sure. so what did people think of "labyrinthine"? my boyfriend edited it in the middle of his second year uni exams so i think he deserves a big shout out! tho i think in the end it was actually OVERedited. and i wish we had supplied our own tune because trance really doesnt do it for me anymore...
i would have liked to have seen some more experimental film techniques on COL4. a lot of the clips, tho featuring excellent performers, i think looked flat on the video.
my favourites had to be any of the shows using choreography of two or more performers. this is when the beauty really comes to life. so OI! everyone tell me what you thought of my video!!!

what was that camera effect ouy used, nomad? the one where it looks choppy and almost slow motion, except not.... I can't quite place the effect, it almost looks like every other frame was deleted or something and the speed was changed slower and faster... anyways, I love that effect, if you can tell me how you did it I would be forever in debt...

I think it is just a "slow shutter" effect, level 1 I believe (it's a Sony DV Camera). I don't really know these things...

I was thinking about this too,

but on reflection it aint gonna make the result come any quicker and it could influence the voting. On ballance id prefer if the votes were kept secret till the final announcement.

methinks it well may have been the slow shutter too that was affecting the percieved speed of the twirlage, since the strobing effect of a slower shutter makes speed appear disjoint.
i just really wanted say the word dis and joint.
