So it seems there might be a few spinners heading to asia this winter with spinning on their minds. I just wanted to see who else is heading over, what their plans are while they're over there.

My tickets are booked! I'm arriving in bangkok 16th november, and returning to ireland 3rd February

I've heard from a lot of spinners of a park in bangkok where people meet up every day to play. Thanks to Banshee Cat for the following info:

 Written by:

It is the Pra Atit boat stop, and the park is called Pra Sumen. I would reccommend staying closish by at the guesthouses on Sri Ayyutaya rd-- Tavees Guesthouse, or Sri Ayyutaya's, or Shantis, all very close together down that road. Nice community... May Kai Dees is a great restaurant for veggie food along near that strip-two locations, one on samsen, and one off the end of Kho San rd and across the st.... Probably more specific address in the guide books...

Nick (poi celebrity number 1 wink) is planning on a poi camp in Pai, northern Thailand, where spinipulation enthusiasts can meet up and play, practice, etc (see his post below). I definately plan on spending some time up there with him during my adventure. Probably stop number one after bangkok... ubbrollsmile

Leave your winter behind, come find some winter summer!

COME SEE HOW FAR THE RABBIT HOLE GOES!

Am seconding the Ton sai concern...

Olive... are you there now? (or is anyone actually there now?)

Should we still head for Krabi and Ton sai? Or maybe just go straight to Ko Pha Ngan?

Can anyone recommend anywhere on Ko Pha Ngan for a big group of spinners?

I've posted links to two maps below... One an overview of the island, another of the bottom East tip.

I was on Hat Yuan for a while in Jan 2004 and it was lovely. It's the next beach along from the full moon beach... so you can go to the party if you want to, but it's far enough away not to be disturbed by the loud people. You can only get there by boat, or by climbing over the manageable hill from Hat Thian. However, it may have changed loads since then.

Anyone any more recent suggestions?

Clare, that area, Hat Yuan, Had Tien and Hat Wai nam are my favorites on Ko PG. I would gladly meet you there instead of tonsai. It has changed, but not all that much. In some ways better...

There are enough bungalow operations we should be able to find space, big blue, bamboo, sanctuary, wai nam-- lots of lovely spots. I plan to be on Hat wai Nam or tien for at least two weeks, maybe a month, and would love to have company of the spinning crew!

See, best option is to take the Airport shuttle Bus to the victory monument... the final stop of this line (haven't got the number at hand) is the south end of Kao Sarn eek Yeah, THAT close.. and it should not be more than 150 B, the cab is about 300 ++++++++ depending WHAT TIME of day and during the week you arrive (remember there is a BRAND NEW airport now) smile

The guest house you might talk about (well there have been some venues added in the meantime and many are pretty good) could be the NEW SIAM guest house, which is behind the temple. Your best option is to drag your backpack to a travel agent, ask him, whether you can deposit it for 2 hrs (maybe at a 20 B tip) and shop for accomodation around the temple area without a heavy load.

If you want to head Phangan, then the GOVERNMENT VIP BUS might be the fastest, cheapest and most reasonable option. It takes you all the way ONto Phangan (as far as my knowledge goes) - no hassle with getting from the train station or "VIP bus" terminal in Suratthani to the ferry and to the island.

South of Phangan will be packed next week, as full moon is getting closer (week before and after is just :eeks: and I am certain you will NOT find it easy to find a space to drop in) ah yes, and there was another holiday coming up.... *scratches head* .... can't recall... cool So THE ENTIRE ISLAND will still recover from THAT PARTY by all next fortnight...

I hope that helped a small bit down the track and I close shoulders with Ronopotamus, saying

bounce hug :rollsmiley: kiss all the best for 07 smile

Thanks for that tom... New Siam rings a bell, but then, they're all pretty similar.

Full moon is on the 3rd, and I won't be getting to the islands til about the 5th or 6th... so I'm hoping it will have cleared a bit by then... I seem to remember the crowds clearing a day or two after full moon last time.

Ronan... have a splendid time in Laos... ahhh, such a beautiful place! And see you soon mister biggrin

Olive's mobile phone still works... so he can be contacted on that number.

Take care

Hi Everyone,

CHANGE OF PLANS IN MOTION!

So, I'm in the middle of the worst part of my trip so far. I flew to Hat Yai thinking I was en route to Penang getting a Visa and then going to Krabi for Green Spirit. I woke up THURSDAY morning realizing that I hadn't taken into account what day of the week it was, and that I wouldn't get my visa back until the following tuesday. I then took a bus to Krabi thinking I would get my visa on the 2nd.

In Krabi it poured rain all day. I spent a bunch of time looking for a place in Ao Nang, but couldn't find anything below 1,200 baht. I then went back to not-s0-scenic Krabi Town, and after trying many places the best I found here was 700 Baht. EVERYTHING IS FULL!!!

So, things will clear up by the 8th... but I'm not sure Tonsai will meet the needs of our budget group. I vote that we change to Koh Phangan if possible.

The problem is that I've also had some kind of computer crash, and all my email folders have been deleted, so I don't have everybody's email address. Needless to say this is stressing me out a bit, because I was telling everybody to meet on Tonsai.

So... I'll email drew, and I"ve emailed a couple others, but could everybody help out and email anybody else who was thinking of coming here?

Oh, and send me love. It's been a tough couple days. I felt really stupid for messing up my visa run, and I now have to go all the way back to Penang on the 2nd, which means I won't make it to Rainbow, and I"ve just burned through a whole lot of money doing all this, and will have to burn through more, and it's all landed me wet and lonely in a lame hotel room in Krabi, and I might even have to bail on Green Spirit because 700 Baht is expensive!

...I do still realize that I"m a very lucky person< though< and i have many reasons to count my blessings. INCLUDING ALL OF YOOOOOUUUUUUU!!!!!!!!!!

(Starts singing the happy-to-have-so-many-friends-song) doo-doo-daaa-dee-dooo

Nick! If you are still in Krabi, go find the pizza place, run by an italian man and his thai wife... It will make Krabi worthwhile, best pizza anywhere in the entire world! Did you try for a dorm room at Pk mansion? It used to be cheap, and their cashew chicken rocks.

Internet in thailnad was messed up from an earthquake in Taiwan my friend tell me, maybe that is what happened to yours?

I will be at Big Blue on the eleventh, that is my plan! Anyone that gets there first, maybe I can share a room, or can they book one for me?

I will likely move over to Haad Wai Nam( walking distance two beaches over) or a friends house once I am settled a bit and see whats up.

Big hug to Nick, yuk, hate travelling snafus. I got stuck two days in Hat Yai once, it was ridiculous. Bored, we went nuts and indulged in KFC and dunkin' donuts, stayed in a hotel with cable and a bath tub... much silliness!

See ya soon!

Much like Hotel California... you can check out any time you want... wink

I can recommend North Phangan, the beach opposite Koh Ma... you wouldn't need a dirtbike, like I'd suggest when living on the eastside...

See you there, and if I don't recognise you: I'm the one with the shaved head, glasses and looking like a martial arts monkey wink ubblol besides I dropped my Hippie uniform and changed to "smart casual"... tongue

Yipe. Too bad about your plans Olive. Hopefully it will all work out for everybody to see everyboy they need to see. Krabi is REALLY BEAUTIFUL EVERYBODY! I'm just not sure it's the right place for us all to meet on Jan 8th.

I'm now in a cheap guesthouse in Krabi Town. I found Maya and Nao. Things are straightening out. I hope that post wasn't too dramatic. Eek.

Uauu!!!

Lots of things going on at the same time, is quite messy!!

Clare: Check the 5th pague of this thread, u've got the cheap way to get to Kao San Road, 35 bath, instead of 150, same amount of time, with a really strong air con.

Olive: Where will u be around the 4th or 6th, I want to meet up with u but I'm in Laos, going down tomorrow, so it will taske me few days to get to Krabi,,...

Nick: a hugue hug from here, hope u r smiling enjoying the spinning at the ebach, hopefully see u soon!!

AND FOR EVERYONE!! I met a guide over here taht told me about a beach in Pgnang, he says is the 4th beach going east from the full moon party. He says is flat and with shade in the afternoon. He also said that there is some abandoned bungalows that we migth be able to crash on, and a building, like and old restaurant that is not being used, apart from some people to do some Yoga.
I don't know maybe we could even find a space? It sounds pretty good, if anyone is around and wants to try it!1He said that we could even put our tents at the beach,..it sounds cheap, and good,..don't know, just a suggestion,..

I wish everyone a lovely NEW YEAR!! Hope to see some of u soon!!

Josh: felicita a heidi y Philipe de mi parte, un beso enorme y un abrazo de oso!!
