If you haven't seen it already, I made a thread [Old link]

I strongly recommend Neutral Milk Hotel - In the Aeroplane over the Sea -

 Written by:

The band's second LP, In the Aeroplane Over the Sea, released in 1998, is notable as a critically acclaimed work and a widely popular recording. It is a spiritually motivated work conceptually based on the beauty to be found in the horrific fate of Anne Frank and similarly overwhelming tragedies. During live performances, including the one released under the title Live at Jittery Joe's, Mangum has described some of the songs off this album as based on urgent, recurring dreams he had of a Jewish family during World War II. The album was highly praised by critics for its wildly inventive instrumentation and Mangum's provocative and impassioned lyrics.

The Arcade Fire - Funeral - and whatnot. Those concept storytelling albums used to make me all weepy. It's what music is really about wink

I totally love Songs: Ohia.. You can listen to "Lioness" here

and more animal songs! "Tigress"

Thanks Kael again for the links.. We can't have too much of weepy music. smile

I'm planning to go to China to study feicha in the Beijing International Art School for 2 months in march and april. I confirmed with the school that I get the classes I want (feicha 16h a week and kunfu about 12h a week) so all I need basically is to sign up and look for flight tickets...!

I've been trying to learn a bit of tai chi also. From a video whahah.. But I'm pretty good in following instructions and I've done 2 years of kung fu so the moves are quite familiar. So I've "learnt" the first 9 forms of the 24 form so far. I need something like this to balance my staffage.

We had really good shows in Rome with RHD. And it was on ice with icespikes in shoes. And basically flawless in front of 3000 people. In the middle of skating christmas elves and whatever... smile

But I really didn't like Rome.. It is beautiful but it was a collision of cultures. I can't understand why the f they have siesta and why the h i need to wait for my food for over an hour when I'm in a hurry. And why don't they speak proper english..? If we didn't have the shows and stress of missing luggage it might've gone down easier.. It was beautiful.

I think somebody got the show in Rome on video. Not sure if it'll be shared with the public though. wink

Last night we had the last RHD show. Big new years eve celebration in Helsinki. We did 2 sets with 6 firejugglers and the whole fireact was directed by Maksim Komaro from Circo Aereo (Go see them if they come your way...!). Eventually it was all good mostly due to the 20000 people there. And the second set was live on tv so I'll ask my mom for the vid. smile

Continuing with the music topic... PANDORA.COM !!! Personalised radiostations!! Go check it out.. Just find a US zip code for the creation of the account.

Happy new year everyone..!

I'm burying the remains of RHD for good and it feels good.

3 weeks until my flight to Beijing. Damn I can't wait! All confirmed with the school.. doing 1½ months of feicha and wushu. I did 4 years of circus school but only now I'm getting my first real teacher in staff manipulation. And living in Beijing must be an amazing experience also.

I'm getting really nervous right about now. It didn't hit me until now. I'm off to Beijing tomorrow. Nope let me rephrase that. I'm going to the circus department of the Beijing International Art School. The place where 5 year olds do one handed handstands. I'm getting really nervous.

I am leaving my laptop home... Imagine... 1½ months without it. (Un)fortunately my roommate has one and internet connection. I'd want to take things back a few decades when the world wasn't so small. Next time I'll take the Trans-Siperia train. This time I'm flying. Slacker. Anyways... I'm trying to do things the old fashioned way and write real letterz n [censored]. Yo. So anybody reading this could send me their post address. I'll do my best to send a letter. You remember those things? Funny things written on paper and it took time and effort to write those things. And it took possibly a week before it arrived... Yep.

Expect a loooot of pics and maybe a few vids. Take care y'all......

Back in Finland. Beijing was great and the school also. Learnt a lot and I'll try to continue from where I left off with the feicha. Training feicha techniques really supports my contact staff manipulation so I got what I wanted. And even more actually. One cultural fund organization in Finland granted me a fund for my trip and studies and artistic work so I actually made money while being there. Nice.

Right now things are really crazy. I'm performing in the Eurovision finale, which is held in Finland this year. We have a great 8 minute circus and dance spectacle with some top artists and an tv-audience of more than 100 million. Rehearsing for it has been really good but stressful. And we haven't had much actual time on stage to do runthroughs. Fortunately we have 3 rehearsal shows with a live audience before the broadcasted event. I hope some of you have a reason now to watch the Eurovisions for once. (12th of may)

I'm living in Helsinki until the end of this month before I go to Singapore for 1½ months. While there I will perform in the Bornfire firefestival (Ima and Nick should be there also I think) and do community work in Thailand. Then I possibly have a chance to visit Iceland and teach circus for teenagers on some art project or festival. I hope it works out.

I performed my contact staff routine in a tiny tiny stage in the Cirko circusfestival club a few nights ago. And got asked to do some sort of experimental presentation on contact staff in the 5-3-1 juggling festival in Finland later this year. I should have a partner who doesn't do staff. I'm thinking of asking one girl who studies circus and used to be a rhytmic gymnastic. She has a really nice circus routine with the gymnastic ball and I think these two props and our performance styles would go well together. It's just that she's uber flexible. And well... I'm not. But I will work on my splits and one day I will get atleast one again.

So... a lot of good news. I feel pretty good and I'm inspired to work hard this year. The bad news is that I probably have to choose between Play and Iceland. Which means that I don't see some of you lovely people....... Maybe EJC then.

Take care.

Nice one smile

Ok... First of all, tis great you had such a good time away and learned stuff... it's good to read that you're all inspired and seem happy(-ish) wink

Secondly... Eurovision?!!!!! Hahahahahahahahahah.

Ok... enough laughing... But wow. That must be the biggest possible audience. Well done! It sounds fantastic and I hope you enjoy it (but dammit, now I'm going to have to watch Eurovision frown ). I shall be heckling you from the safety of my sofa in Ireland biggrin

Enjoy all your other planned adventures, trips, and success - you deserve it all and I hope it goes well.

Tis a pity you won't be at Play though frown

Iceland isn't that far from Ireland (just a few letters in the alphabet rolleyes) Can you come for a visit en route?

Am sending love, hugs and smiles

Yep. It will be probably be the biggest audience I will ever perform to. And no matter how crap the rest of the Eurovision might be, our show rocks. It will be just a matter of how they will shoot and cut it for television.

SO not the point though!! ubblol

where are you in eurovision?! i was flicking between shows so i did miss chunks of the show, so the only fire i saw was a very quick lil piece that clare mentioned - dressing the runner in posh clothes!? i taped it so i'll watch it again tomorrow - but where are you so i can go straight to that bit!!? biggrin

Yep. It looks like my thread is doing some weird stuff.

Thanks Clare for your woooohooooos!

It was loads of fun to perform there and work in such an amazing team. Pauliina Räsänen doing the trapeze was from Cirque du Soleils Alegria show (which is in Paris btw atm) and I mean we had Apocalyptica for the band and so on and so on...

BUT..... The way they shot it was sooooo bad. We tried to get the tv-director to make corrections to the crap work he had done in earlier run throughs but this televised one was one of the worst. I was a soloist. I had a beginning to my part. I had an ending. I had tricks. High throws. I had a routine that I spent a long time to practice and hard to get it clean and 200% proof with no drops... And all you could see was me suddenly on stage out of nowhere doing some spinning with way too tight close up from the cameras. And then the cameras fly all over the arena way too far to see anything and then they're way too close again to see anything. And then I was gone. And it's not just me bitching about this... Believe me... Everybody thought it was crap...

Only worse than how they shot me was how they shot Jan Unestam who started with the balloon. His final trick was to show on stage in the very end in an amazing dress with his head burning. He had two assistants from Sweden for this trick. And they didn't show it on tv. So what did they pay us for?

But the audience in the arena went crazy in the arena everytime. But I don't think I've ever been so pissed off after a perfect show after seeing how they shot it. It was a great chance to show my skills worldwide. But it was wasted due to the tv-directors incapability. I'm ok with it now. But it's a danm shame...

GITA... This is the interval circus act right before they gave their points to the songs.

Bah... I thought you might say something along those lines.

Unfortunately, it didn't come across that you were doing a solo... in fact, the only really obvious solo was the trapeze artist.

There were some nice close ups of your face, but not enough of you in full screen.

Dammit... sorry it didn't work out as well as you'd have liked.
Ah well, sure you took part in the biggest show on TV, which is always good smile

Take care darlin
