Hi, I'm Yakumo, I've been using the nick online for over 10 years just because I liked it, half way through that time I finally found out it meant 'eight clouds' which made me like it even more.

I've been living in Oxford since 1999 and spinning poi the same time since going to a fantastic party in Norfolk (much love to Mrs B. and all aquaintances).

I'd poked about on HoP before but only the shop and the guides when i'd run out of ideas for what to try to learn next. I'd never really noticed the forum, I found it the other week and oli & ros's, and axel's vid's just totally wow'd me so I thoghut I'd sign up at last, say hi and try to meet people.

I was shown alternating crossing at the party, a friend into clubs showed me what he thoguht would be the weaves basics a few weeks later from that I went to work it all out on my own. I can do all the basics, a few different turns, 5 beat forwards and some behind the back stuff, but watching the vids here made me realise I've still sooo much more to learn, espeically how to just .... flow smile

I got my first fire staff the other week, and am hoping to learn that and some contact juggling with the uni juggling soc here, and anyone else I meet who's happy to give guidance.

I train in and teach Goju Ryu Karate and have just forked out _all_ my savings on a 2 week trip to Japan to train with some of the Japanese and hopefully take my 2nd dan.

What a mouthfull.. if anyones still reading, hope to spin with you soon :o)

I was looking at hop in 2000 I think, just didn't bother even looking at the forums assuming they'd be full of nothing but new zealanders and/or customer feedback, lol smile

Nice to meet you up in Ed... you're lovely, and my back have never been so satisfyingly crunched before. I'm certain you're equally as lovely without the drink too.

Been stuck away from 'net access for a bit so I haven't been swamping the forum as usual smile

How did such a lovely lady tumble into a thread like mine? biggrin

PS. I used to play with Max a lot but really fell for Maya, though it's a real shock to the system for a long time when your trying to even learn the UI.

Hey you take beautiful photos. biggrin What camera do you have. How long have you been into it? More, more!

I'm afraid I'm max-biased, and even more embarrassingly, hadn't even played with Maya. Do you still use it.. show images ? pwwease?

They were taken with a little kodak 4mpx camera I'd borrowed from a friend as I didn't have one at the time, I bought a panasonic fz20 later which has been awesome, and I really wish I'd had it for that trip, it since got damaged at falmouth6 frown

hoping to get a canon EOS some time, but need to sort my life out a fair bit more first biggrin

I haven't used any m3d apps for years sadly, I used to have to do some very simple things for work with them, but just loved exploring what could be done and learning all about them, I'd like to try do something decent with one someday.

I remember first getting to play with the first 3 releases of Max, after playing with 3ds r4 and being amazed, but it still only took about 2 days to play with every menu and button I could find and see what everything did, Maya (v3 was the first I got to see) took weeks in comparison, and still left a lot hidden. once you learn basic workflow, viewport manipulation etc, even basic stuff in max seemed a chore, max used to crash all the time too.

Maybe we should both see if maya personal learning edition is till available and have a play smile but I'm spending more and more time away from computers, spinning, or just appreciating being outside instead smile

Heh, tell me about it. I grew up in the country with horses, and now a look at a couple of computer monitors all day. Sometimes it still feels weird, but I love my job and being creative with 3D stuff so I wouldn't want to be anywhere else.

The photos are lovely. I'm suprised to not here you're full into it with all the professional added extras to get results like that.

And yep. Max still crashes. Autosave is your friend.

M11 - Sym's 'just go that way, turn left on the main road and it'll be signposted' proved to be sorely lacking, but we did get there in the end smile

very pleased to meet you too, to be honest I think I had more fun on the 2nd day with you guys than the actual fair itself smile
