Hi, I'm Yakumo, I've been using the nick online for over 10 years just because I liked it, half way through that time I finally found out it meant 'eight clouds' which made me like it even more.

I've been living in Oxford since 1999 and spinning poi the same time since going to a fantastic party in Norfolk (much love to Mrs B. and all aquaintances).

I'd poked about on HoP before but only the shop and the guides when i'd run out of ideas for what to try to learn next. I'd never really noticed the forum, I found it the other week and oli & ros's, and axel's vid's just totally wow'd me so I thoghut I'd sign up at last, say hi and try to meet people.

I was shown alternating crossing at the party, a friend into clubs showed me what he thoguht would be the weaves basics a few weeks later from that I went to work it all out on my own. I can do all the basics, a few different turns, 5 beat forwards and some behind the back stuff, but watching the vids here made me realise I've still sooo much more to learn, espeically how to just .... flow smile

I got my first fire staff the other week, and am hoping to learn that and some contact juggling with the uni juggling soc here, and anyone else I meet who's happy to give guidance.

I train in and teach Goju Ryu Karate and have just forked out _all_ my savings on a 2 week trip to Japan to train with some of the Japanese and hopefully take my 2nd dan.

What a mouthfull.. if anyones still reading, hope to spin with you soon :o)

I havn't seen that ravehead, sounds cool though, the guy at my friends parties just brings a gazeebo to stick the DJ kit under. I can't remember his name offhand, it's been a couple of years now, but mr pitts doesn't ring a bell.

Elanna - I'd love to visit kobe, but I'm going to be in oomagari and then akita city, right up north, one night in Tokyo (I have no idea where I'm going to stay...arg) and then off back home :-/

Easy dude!

Just returning the favour! Hows things anyway? Tis a shame you couldn't make the Camden meet, I'm trying to turn it into a regular thing (next ones this Saturday) so if you're interested, come down! smile

How was Japan? I'd love to go someday, finance prevents me currently though...

YAY! Synergy!!! smile smile smile smile smile

Anyone thinking about meeting up for drink beforehand or everyone just gonna find each other in there?

I'm fine either way as I'm not too keen on pubs anyway but there's a very nice Elizabethan one round the corner from the place we went to last time!

The course was really good, first aid, health & safety, child protection and coaching, the guys running it seem to be trying to set up something like a new standards body covering all martial arts, I really like what the organisers are trying to do, and it really came across that they're not just preaching teaching through positive reinforcement, but actually beleive in it, I've been on seminars before where it was all clear they were really only interested in taking your money, these guys heart really seems in the right place, for all the right reasons, and they're making it easily accessible, cheaply.

I'd managed to get mostly respectable in a Tesco bathroom but still had glitter all over the place, kept me smiling all day smile

I was at Synergy (the guy in the flaming orange flares with aerotech juggling balls) if you remember.

I'm also really an Oxford man, I'm a student there now, only I'm currently away on an industrial placement in Bristol.

I'll be back in Oxford from jan.

Have we met? I was in Oxford for most of the past 3 years, I was president of the uni juggling society...my name's Matt?

If not we must get in touch when I move back to Ox
