I'm 34 and unfortunatley have only just found POI, which has really ticked me off as it's so addictive. But I guess I still have some good years ahead of me. I've been spinning (if that's the term you poisters use) for about 6 weeks and have fired them up about 4 times (no hair loss yet.....)
Can anyone give me any pointers or recommendations.
I've nailed the 3 beat forward and reverse including turning, I've got the butterfly and overhead butterfly sorted plus a few simple bits as well.
What would you recommend me trying next.
Glad I found this website it looks pretty cool.
BTW I'm from that little Island known as United Kingdom.

Cheers all, hope to be hearing and speaking with loads of you in the future juggle

Fantastic, I'm a bit out of touch when in comes to Martial Arts, I trained Shinte Do , which is a derivatrive of Shotokan under a guy named Mick Powell (one of my best friends) he's a 5th Dan at the tender age of 34. I managed to get to green belt and like most took a side step out. I will get back in some day but am loving Poi. I have practiced with Nunchaku for a long whilst and got pretty good, brushed the surface of double chuks, which is probably why I've picked up Poi fairly o.k.
It's so addictive there should be a warning on them when you buy them

Don't forget to go here for more high class poi lessons!! weavesmiley

I think the most important thing to practise is technique more than tricks, nice smooth patterns are more impressive that tricks although when you get good they come together very nicely biggrin

Dunc, cheers for that I'll have a look later, yeah I know what you mean about technique, There's nothing more satisfying than a nice smooth forward and backward weave. You know what us Essex lads are like we wanna run before we can walk.
I'm looking forward to posting some pics and video clips soon.

I have a confession....... I grew up in essex *looks shame faced* I've never owned white stillettos or had a string of one night stands and my names not Tracy. I'm a complete let down as an Essex girl. Maybe because I was born and lived in Leicester for the first 6 months of my life, I don't really qualify as an Essex girl and thats why I don't have a tendancy to wear crop tops, mini skirts high heeled boots and no knickers on a winters day? ubblol

I'm just kidding all you lovely ladies from Essex. I used to love living over there.

hi J wave

welcome to HoP, this wonderful warm & weird world we all love so dearly

might i suggest you learn everything you can do in both directions, and also backwards. it also helps to just spin one poi around. figure out ways & places to spin it, and then try it with two.

happy spinning weavesmiley

and enjoy the madness

Faberge, Thanks for the nice welcome, seems that everyone at HoP is pretty cool. Good point you've made I really struggled for a day to get the backward weave and have now nailed turning to the left and right which makes a huge difference. I must admit the backward weave feels nicer than the forward weave. I do get dizzy when I try to do more than 360 degrees turn without stopping.

You helpful lot might be able to advise me about fuel etc, what's the best thing for us Brits to use, would it be Paraffin? or is there something better around. Is there any difference between paraffin and Kerosene?
I've heard some people mention leaving a cork in the bucket, can someone tell me more please. At present I let them burn out and then re submerse in paraffin and get the lighter to them again but I'm sure it's wrong but as I'm only 6 weeks old (to Poi anyway) I'm sure you will all forgive me.
