I've been using a pair of earth flowlights with crystal cases for the better part of a year now. I liked them a lot when I first got them, because they're quite a bit heavier than the old glowsticks I was using before. They're also decently soft if you do stuff like wraps or hit yourself with them, and cushion the flowlight from hard knocks against other stuff (although a friend of mine still managed to break a flowlight in the crystal cases, so they're not infallible, however much protection they offer).
The flowlights with crystal cases still aren't anywhere near as heavy as fire poi, but you can add flowmass to make them heavier if you want. The cases also diffuse the light quite a bit, because they're textured sort of like frosted glass.
Only gripe I have with the cases is that I put them in a bag with red lining and they stained that colour, but that's more my own fault than anything.
