I've been using HOP for quite awhile now, for their products and video lesson section. Thought I'd check out the forums.
I was living in British Columbia for a few years, that's where I was introduced to Poi. My job brought me into Victoria, BC once a month where I was able to go to Poi workshops with Poi Pixies. The instructor, Sarah, was awesome, she would find out what you could do and then show you mind blowing variations of what you new.
I just moved back to my home town of Truro, NS and feel as if I'm an island of Poi. I'll convert others.
The reason I love poi is that it makes me feel graceful in a way I could never have imagined before. And when I watch a video of me playing with poi, I look stiff and methodical, it doesn't matter though, when I play I perceive grace and it makes me happy.
