I just started to pick up staff, and I have gotten most beginners moves correct, but I just can't get the Halo right. I don't know what I'm doing wrong and I've visited the free lesson about a thousand times, but it doesn't help. I've come to an understanding that it is a fairly basic move, and I'm sure I'm doomed if I can't even accomplish that, but I want to try everything five times and five times again before I give up on myself.

Any and all tips are greatly appreciated. I hope this helps.

Thank you all in advance hug You all rock!

Stand facing forwards,
then turn your upper body to the side you approach from as far as you go
start the halo movement
when stick is vertical smoothly rotate body to face opposite direction whilst keeping feet planted

You should always have a shoulder under the staff and the back of your neck when it's vertical. remember the centre of the staff should pivot right in the middle of your neck.

that's all I can quickly suggest without you explaining what part of the halo is causing you problems...

A couple of balls short of a full cascade... or maybe a few cards short of a deck... we'll see how this all fans out.

try it at more of a 45 degree angle.

Rest the staff right at the base of your neck (either side) with the center a little in front. Now Push the staff up and over, you may need to duck your head a bit and turn slightly with the staff.....

keep doing it wrong and eventually it will come smile

Thanks a bundle! hug

Edit: I just went out and tried, and what you said did help improve it some. Its not quite there, but I think I now get it enough to achieve it with practice! THANKS SO MUCH!

a good way to really get it down is hold your hands at about yer collar bone, palms up, and catch it right there and push it back over to the other waiting hand. then once you can go back and forth a couple times do a 360 while doing it wink
