Sorry if any has already posted. But did anyone tape pyromania, which was on Tuesday 6th February on channel 4. I watch it but sketch missed it and would be really grateful if anyone could send me a copy. What did you think if you did see it?

Think this was mentioned in a thread recently called 'poi on tv', so maybe someone over there has it taped?

Alternatively, channel4's website might still have it on archive, you may be able to download it.

I think the general view was that it showed fire dancing in a fairly bad light (again! How do the tv people find these people among so many nice spinners?)

Emphasis on ego, and using fire for sexual gratification, I believe.

I only watch the bit about poi spinners in Portland Oregan and thought it was portrayed very differently to what I see spinning as, i.e. if we didn’t have our fire toys we would be burning down schools. I would like to watch the whole of the programme to see if that was the case.

Yep, think that was about the gist of it.

Le sigh.

Why can't programme researchers do a bit of work?!

me too! *is innocent*

however, i tried to argue the point that all firespinners are not pyros, until i realised i do actually set fire to most of my possesions and friends.

I brought it up on the TV thread, but I don't have a copy, unfortunately!

I also checked, and both of the guys interviewed are lapsed members of HOP. I disagree that they have the 'wrong' attitude, but I certainly don't think that approach to it is the general attitude - then again, that's only MY assumption based on no research :S

I found the Florida group more objectionable, as they were portrayed as doing stupid things to enjoy the 'danger'.

Eww, Liza Minelli...
