It's amazing how different 2 doctors can be, and how much one can appear to not care (i started off on a rant, but digressed)
I've had a sore throat for at least a month. My doctor used to just feel my throat, tell me I was fine, and send me on my way. At one stage I was having sinus problems, a shot of prednisolone, and he sent me on my way.
The other day I went in to get an eye-test and was told I was long-sighted with poor focus.
After having trouble swallowing (and therefore eating) for the past week, decided to see another doctor (we've had so many other problems with my doctor in the past)
We saw Prem today and he asked about our families full medical history to find out about the health of our family and stuff (he's never seen us before) before he started examining me.
We told him what had happened with the other doctor, and he didn't seem too happy, until we told him about the injection, then he appeared quite disgusted. He checked temperature, and my throat, he noticed my tonsils were slightly inflamed, but not infected. He did a quick eye-test and told me I had good vision, felt around my sinus passages to see which bits were tender.
Then when he decided what he thinks is wrong, he didn't want to prescribe antibiotics, instead telling me to have a hot drink every half hour, 2 panadol every 6 hours, told me to start drying my hair instead of letting it naturally dry, and 3 times a day I need to breath in steam (with nothing in it). When he was telling us what was wrong he broke it down into parts, getting out pictures for me and not treating me like I'm a moron.
I'm quite happy with this guy, ya know? He appears to actually care about patients, and doesn't want to use drugs as a first option. Am I happy just because the last guy didnt care, or is he actually sounding like a good doctor?
Now, if I can just remember what it is that's wrong, something about post drip something or rather. Some kind of sinus condition where when I lie down I have mucus running down my throat which doesnt always get coughed up, in fact I can be normal, except for the muck in my throat. It can also affect vision and a few other things. It can last anywhere between weeks and months.

I know it as "post sinus drip" I've had it a couple of times and you doctor is prescribing the same thing mine did. I was lucky that it only lasted for three weeks once I started on my regiment.
It's nice when a doctor actually takes time to figure out what's going on.

Oh i know what you mean! I went to a doctor about a really bad cough i'd been having. He was one of the doctors with a gold plaque on the entrance to the surgery. he did the good old "cough twice" listened to my chest and said "chest infection. heres a script for some antibiotics" and that was that. I barely even remember him looking at me when i was in there. the antibiotics didnt work. cough stayed really really bad. breathing problems. my friend said "probably asthma" went back to a different doctor at the end of the year. he listened to me cough, listened to my chest and went "woah thats bad asthma!" and guess who has barely had a problem since she got her ventilin! and he wasn't even a plaque doctor! only one of the "associates".

Try guaifenesin 300-400mg every 4-6 hours and see if it helps.

ah, yep, Post Sinus Drip sounds about right.
We told him Im meant to be going to the snow for a week, he doesn't want me to go, but he ended up prescribing me some antibiotics to see if it helps clear it up a bit sooner (not sure what they are though, mum has the script). I have to see him again on Thursday to see how Im going.

Yay i finally get to tell of my experience with stupid doctors.
End of story i have a Pacemaker (yes like Krusty the Klown) but this is going back to when it all started showing its signs. I was 14 and was having fainting spells. My mother took me to a head doctor originally, he did sleep deprevation test and all that sort of crap to see if it was a mild case of Epilipsy (excuse the spelling) and once he had no clear evidence either way he decided i should take pills that were to slow my heart rate (thats why at the beginning i told you the end story. Now this doctor "thought" i should take pills to slow my heart. It was my heart that was the problem, that prick could of killed me) Long story short the pills didn't work i kept falling over all the time till my mother took me to the family GP and she sent me to a heart specialist. 4 days after seeing this doctor i was out of hospital with a disc the size of a ice hockey puck sticking out of my left chest keeping me alive. QUESTION - If you have know clear diagnosis why possible make the problem worse by prescribing anything, why not say well i don't know and be done with it.
Ok thats my rant on Doctors *deep breath and put meditation in place*

Can someone answer my question here? What exactly is Post Nasal Drip? he did explain... but doesn't mean I can remember

A common cold or something i can agree with that people want a answer.
But when it comes to specialist they must get the diagnosis right or refer you to someone else that might know not have a stab in the dark at what it might be.

ADD - Adult Disiplanary Difficientcy Why has it only come about really in the last ten years. Because parents are to wrapped up in trying to make a fortune. They palm the kids off to day care facilities and nanny's and wonder why the child is being brought up the way they want or expect. DO IT YOURSELF!!!

I think that a lot of people rely on medical science for a lot of things that they can really manage themselves..
For example, its a lot easier to take sleeping pills rather than look at your diet/activity patterns. Lots of people want the symptoms to go away, rather than the underlying condition, cos its easier (in the short term, at any rate).
A good doctor is like a good hairdresser... Hang on to their details at all costs...

I was talking to mum last night, my aunty used to give my cousins a fenergin every night before bed so they would sleep. We used to be told to get to bed, and if it had been a few nights with bad sleep we would have a warm milk with a little bit of Holix (sorry about the spelling) which is a malt drink which has sotthing affects
we used to have a really good doctor.. but then he retired!

I will be graceing this strange world of ours with mini me's but they will definately see the back of my hand. There is no 2 ways about it. I copped it and turned out ok. *nervous twitch*

Hey, there IS ADD, and there are a lot of kids for whom it is a real problem!! Just because it's nowadays more fashionable to explain the fact that kids have too much energy by ADD doesn't mean that there are those who do have it, and do need the drugs to stand any chance of completing school and getting a degree!
Some of these things the numbers have only gone up because previously many people didn't recognise it as an actual illness but as most of you seem to do the childrens' or the parents' fault - take Asperger's or dyslexia... I agree with there being too many prescriptions of drugs playing with kids' brains for ADD though, but don't think there aren't some kids that actually need it!

Doctors are indoctrinated by the government/education complex and are unwitting tools of a worldwide authoritarian conspiracy. I suspect you were the victim of a plan to cull some segment of the population. Once they figure out that you switched doctors, it will be on again.

But in all seriousness, I think its tricky for doctors to remain independent when they have so much pressure applied by pharmaceutical companies.
Oh, and people that would prefer to take a pill to relieve symptons rather than actually DO something to make their life better.

Hmm... For me, I had been going from various doctors to try and figure out why I was continuously getting sick.
One just asked what I was experiencing, gave me some meds, sent me on my way, saying it'll be better in two weeks.
Two weeks passed, nothing improved. Was going to see him again, but he was absent, so went to a different doctor. Was told that the meds werent doing anything at all, so I was gotten off them, put on different meds and sent off for some blood tests.
The meds worked for a while (tests came back saying there was an infection), then I got sick again.
Went to another doctor again (the one before was booked up all day, and I was feeling really ill). This one took me off the meds I was on, then went about asking me how long I've been getting ill, whats been happening in my life at the time, medical history. She didnt want to put me on any other meds until she was sure what it was, but had to give me something to relieve the pain. Did some various tests and what not to try and figure out what was happening, and she scheduled weekly appointments.
Apparently my continued illness was due to the stress I was under at the time, I'd get sick from one thing while under stress, then from there I'd get sick from something else. So she was helping me with my stress and illness, helping me with ways to combat it, de-stress, and at the same time checking that none of the sicknesses were getting worse. She was limiting the amount of meds I was on too, for which Im glad, its rather annoying being on them :S and she was wondering if my body was becoming reliant on the medicine or not.
She wanted to see me until she was sure I was 100% again.
Long story short - I have a permanent doctor now, I dont get sick as often, and I get out a lot more. ^_^
I rather perfered her method compared to the others of "you have this, take this, this and this". But that may be me. *dittos NYC*

Hmm... For me, I had been going from various doctors to try and figure out why I was continuously getting sick.
One just asked what I was experiencing, gave me some meds, sent me on my way, saying it'll be better in two weeks.
Two weeks passed, nothing improved. Was going to see him again, but he was absent, so went to a different doctor. Was told that the meds werent doing anything at all, so I was gotten off them, put on different meds and sent off for some blood tests.
The meds worked for a while (tests came back saying there was an infection), then I got sick again.
Went to another doctor again (the one before was booked up all day, and I was feeling really ill). This one took me off the meds I was on, then went about asking me how long I've been getting ill, whats been happening in my life at the time, medical history. oh, that is definatly the way to go, but sometimes they just aren't all possible.. drinking a hot drink every half hour, steam inhalation 3 times a day... not always possible
But I do prefer that kind of thing over meds
