Posted: Hello...just taking a moment to introduce myself, as instructed.
I'm Kalen, and I'm an Aussie living in Chiang Rai, Thailand. I discovered poi online after joining a tribal bellydance community (it's amazing how many people are into both).
I've been practising poi with two tennis balls inside some pantyhose, lol, but I do hope to buy some proper poi real soon. In about two and a half months I'll be going back to Australia for about six months, and while I'm there I hope to take some poi lessons with Malia from Underbelly if possible - then when I return to Thailand I'll be moving to a larger city where I'm hoping there'll be more of an audience for poi and other performance-related stuff.
Some info about me:
Name: Kalen Country: Australia/Thailand Hometown: In Australia, Melbourne - in Thailand, Chiang Rai but soon to be Chiang Mai DOB: 10/9/1982 Age: 23 Sex: Female Occupation(s): Currently I'm a volunteer with a childrens foundation where I do admin and childcare. My income comes from some lovely generous friends who give me about $150 a month which covers my basic living expenses. Hobbies other than the obvious: Bellydance - all forms, but mainly tribal and tribaret Education: Year 12, plus a year and a quarter of a Bachelor of Education at RMIT, plus six months correspondance study in Naturopathy at ACMN Favorite TV show(s): Frasier Favorite Music Artists/Composers: So many! I like tribal stuff, Middle Eastern stuff, techno, anything. Favorie ice cream flavor(s): Mango. Ice cream in Thailand is SO YUMMY.

to HoP Kalen!! Have you found the free lessons here yet? Also, have a look in the [Old link] section for some inspiration, there's some really amazing stuff in there!
Posted: Yep, have checked the lessons and vids out - this site rocks, I'm so glad I found it.
What's real cute is the kids have been seeing me practise poi and want to learn it too so I have them all doing butterflies and stuff, it's so gorgeous.

My state of mind is not yours to define!
There is a very fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness."

Posted: Thanks guys for the warm welcome. And thanks Flynt for those threads! I'm really excited now about coming home, I always knew the arts community in Melbourne rocks but I wasn't aware how many fire spinners there apparently are there.
And about the kids, lol I know. I'm hoping when I come back to Thailand next year I'll be able to teach some more.
