Just thought I'd post an introduction to say hello and try to find out if there is anyone spinning near to me.
My name is Simon, I've been spinning staff for the past couple of months (since the Glade festival in the UK) am self taught - so am bound to have terrible technique! So please bear with me and my constant (and obvious?) questions.
I am also using what would best be described as a stick for a staff at the moment... So please have a look at my thread in the staff forum (cunningly titled 'my first staff...') and give me your expert advice smile
I'm based in Guildford, Surrey - anyone else in this area?
My other hobbies are dancing in fields, DJing, trampolining and flying radio controlled helicopters (rather half heartedly...).
Cheers,
/truespin

lucky to be where you are.

Cheers for the warm welcome everyone smile

favourite things - hmm anything that gives me that adrelaline rush - fear, heights, high-speeds, danger etc...
back when I were just a lad I was pretty good at trampolining - which is a big adrenaline sport - and also requires bendyness - which fortunately I have in abundance:) - which I hope will help with my spinning!
I also like cheese smile
and cake

I had no idea there was such a wealth of talent in the Guildford area - will have to track some people down (and steal their secrets!).
In fact looking at the guildford meet-up thread it looks like there is a meet happening in a couple of months - which gives me some time to actually learn some (slightly more) decent moves smile

Howdy truespin! wave

So when are you gonna come say hello at a Guildford spin?? The poor old Guildford thread doesn't see much action... but rest assured there's a meet every Thursday evening and usually Sunday afternoon... unless it's REALLY pissing it down! In which case we go to the pub! beerchug ubbrollsmile

On a Thursday it's from about 8pm onwards. I've actually been a bit slack in terms of attendance recently, but I'll definitely be there 2moro by about 9.30...

Hope to see you down there at some point soon!

hiya - only just found this thread again...
have been thinking about popping down - but still feeling a little green - am very new to staff, self taught and only had a proper staff for about 2 weeks...
Saying that, I span fire for the first time last weekend (no problems apart from losing a teeny bit of chest hair... smile ) and have really caught the bug.
I practice every night for about half an hour and am getting there... in fact have just done my first few fishtails smile
I'm out drinking tonight so might feel a bit ill tomorrow... but we'll see. otherwise I'll try to get over on thurs smile
Catch you soon,
truespin
