i was just checking out the site and fell upon the history of poi. i find it interesting that each person that has encountered poi has a different history behind it. i think that everybody has a different interprataion of what poi is to them. Here is my story:
My history of poi has existed in the electronic music scean. where im from there are different names for the style of dance you perform and of those types, poi is just another style. the way that i got started into poi is though a dance style called liquid in which every movement that is performed has a flow that moves to the next movement. the best liquid dancers can move there body into contorted ways and never loose the flow or even appear to stop to change direction - much like the movements in poi and spinning.
